5 Pieces to Chic Up Your Travel Style

5 Pieces to Chic Up Your Travel Style

5 Pieces to Chic Up Your Travel Style 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

Last year was a pretty big travel year for me with two trips to London and a family friend’s wedding in Ireland! This year has been a bit more tame with a few amazing trips this side of the pond. But I’ve been jealous watching everyone else’s getaways on Insta this summer! This got me thinking about how much I love airport and travel style (for real…Pinterest board dedicated to inspo here). Usually I opt for my go-to athleisure favorites for traveling. But when I shot this travel look, I started to think how it would be a great option for a more chic approach to travel style. It still has every element of comfort that I look for when I travel – just a little more structured!

Today, I’ll be sharing 5 travel style essentials to be comfortable and still look chic. Make sure to scroll down to find out what they are!

Top 5 Travel Style Essentials:

1. Casual Drape Trench

Are you one of those people that’s always cold? Because I AM, and I think I’d have a panic attack if I went to the airport without a jacket or trench like this! A drapey trench is a very chic, classic alternative to a sweatshirt or oversized cardi. You can also wear it with so much, so style it with your outfits on your trip – less to pack! This trench would be the perfect option. I have my eye on it – it keeps going on sale and I need to get it ASAP!

2. White Leather Sneakers

If you’ve heard me say it once, you’ll hear me say it again: A pair of white leather sneakers are a must-have for your wardrobe in today’s world. Especially for the airport with all of the walking, and I don’t know about you, but I just want a closed toe shoe option when on the plane. And now with pre-check it’s easier to wear sneaks because you don’t have to take your shoes off. (Or opt for a slide-on sneaker for easy removal if you fly without pre-check!) There are so many styles out there; you’re bound to find one that you love and that flatters you!

Sharing some of my favorites below:

3. Stretchy High-Waisted Jeans

There’s nothing I love more for my travel style than a high waist. That tucked in/sucked in feeling is hard to beat! These jeans would be the only ones that I would *ever, ever, ever* fly in because they are so comfy. Jeans can be just as cozy as a legging but formalize a look just a wee bit more!

4. Sleek Backpack OR Structured Leather Bag

I’ve always been one to grab an oversized tote for travel. But mostly traveling in a carry-on this year has really forced me to learn #minimalism. Enter the backpack. I found a backpack by this brand at TJ Maxx and have loved it ever since. It fits SO MUCH and the nylon is easy to wipe off if anything gets on it etc. Just the way it’s made allows for me to fit my must-haves or suitcase overflow into it easily and still stay organized!

On the other hand, a very structured, perhaps smaller leather bag can be a great travel option to house just your essentials you’ll need on the plane: headphones, makeup/toiletries, water, a book? I love a bag that’s small so it can slide under a plane seat easily but still roomy on the inside. Madewell and Cuyana have amazing options at really great price points. I also recommend choosing a pebbled leather option because it’s a bit more durable and stain-resistant than other leather textures!

5. Comfy Button-Down Blouse

Last but not least, there’s definitely a way to wear a silky or button-down blouse to the airport and still be comfortable. Athleta has an incredible line of athleisure clothes that are specifically made for travel and even work! I love this button down; it would be such a breeze to throw on and go. The silk shirt that I’m wearing in this post is from Everlane – very comfy and very affordable! They have so many classically tailored options that are designed with real women in real life in mind. You don’t have to look far for comfort from them – take a look here!

Must-Have Summer Essentials Wishlist

Must-Have Summer Essentials Wishlist 735 800 neverwithoutlipstick

The summer solstice can’t come soon enough! Whenever the temps near 85 degrees, I just want to be poolside with an iced tea in hand. So on days when it’s pouring down rain, I’ve been dreaming of warmer days and putting together my ultimate summer essentials wishlist!

My Must-Have Summer Style Picks

Top US fashion blog Never Without Lipstick shares her must-have summer essentials | madewell jean shorts, flatlay fashion, flatlay outfit, flatlay photography, madewell white sneakers

I’m loving all things linen, hot pink, powder blue, and any and all statement earrings…and more! I’ve broken down my summer essentials by category below – hope you enjoy ūüôā

Summer Essentials: Tops

The other day I was getting ready to go to dinner with friends when I realized that I’m lacking in the “fun summer top” department! Here are a few tops that I think will help me fix that…

  • As you know, I adore my neutrals, but there’s something about this coral off-the-shoulder top that I can’t pass up. I love how they’ve styled it with high-waisted blue jeans! So summery & versatile. (Use code ITSBEENAWHILE for $25 off your purchase of $100 or more!)
  • Nothing screams summer more than gingham and a halter neckline! This top combines both! But I’m also dying over this puff-sleeve gingham blouse that would be¬†perfect for work.
  • It’s always smart to factor in an airy, peasant blouse to pair with white jeans/light wash denim/your go-to jean shorts etc. This blouse is gorgeous, and the violet floral pattern is so delicate with its watercolor-like details!
  • For a classic summer staple, you can’t go wrong with a white linen button-down – love that this one is under $60.
  • This white v-neck blouse could go with almost every summer outfit. The texture is luxe & SO soft. I love how it lays tucked in or not! I recommend sizing down in this top as it runs a bit bigger.

Summer Essentials: Bottoms

SHOP THIS CASUAL SUMMER LOOK:

Top | Jeans (Wearing 27 but could have done 26) | Shoes (Wearing size 38/US 7) | Headband

  • A pair of light wash denim is practically a must when it comes to summer essentials. Lately, I’ve been reaching for this pair of skinny jeans any chance I can get (see them styled again here)! The fit is so flattering which isn’t always the case with lighter-hued denim, especially in my experience with my more curvy body type. I recommend sizing down 1-2 sizes in these because they stretch out a lot. I’ve had to throw my pair in the dryer a couple of times to tighten them up a bit! But the way they loosen and conform to your body as you wear them is what makes them so extremely comfy to wear.
  • When it comes to summer shorts, I lean more toward the modest, tailored end of the spectrum. But I’m not talking bermuda shorts! Those are safely in my 6th grade past ūüėČ I found two pairs of very flattering and classic options at Club Monaco for this season. They are an investment (the whole store *is* 25% off right now though) but finding a fit this flattering is rare and worth every penny for me! I went true to size (size 6) in both of these.
    • This skort is so chic and crazy flattering; I will be wearing it nonstop!
    • These pleated shorts are so fun and easy to dress up or down. They had them styled in the store with a white tee and sneakers – so cute and easy!
  • When I do reach for jeans shorts, though, you better believe it’s a pair from Madewell. These are the¬†best¬†jean shorts ever…no joke (wrote them a whole love letter here). They’re¬†so flattering and comfortable and that’s coming from someone who usually HATES wearing shorts.

Summer Essentials: Dresses

Top US fashion blog Never Without Lipstick shares her must-have summer essentials | midi dress, summer midi dress, shoshanna midi dress, castaner espadrilles, castaner chiara espadrilles

Dress (size 6 but needed taking in in the bust) | Shoes (wearing size 37) | Earrings (15% off with code GJxASHLEY)

  • This white Shoshanna midi dress is my new all-time fave. You really can style it so many ways from work to the weekend. It’s $135 when it used to be nearly $400!
  • This shirtdress is so elegant and classic in its silhouette. It would make an instant summer closet staple to be worn so many ways. And it’s under $80!
  • If you didn’t already know, I’m a big time Maxxinista. Last week, my mom found me this amazing, ruffled blue and white linen/cotton blend Rebecca Taylor midi dress at TJ Maxx that I’ll probably never take off. There are SO many amazing Rebecca Taylor dresses available there right now for so much less. (Like this floral midi, this black mini with lace detailing, or this darling ruffled hem shirtdress!)
  • I’m going to refer to this dress as the do-it-all dress of the summer! You could wear it to summer weddings, lunch/dinner with pals, wedding/baby showers, you name it. The price is right with this one, and it even comes in my favorite powder blue!

Summer Essentials: Shoes

Top US fashion blog Never Without Lipstick shares her must-have summer essentials | toe loop sandals, Tory Burch ravello sandals, summer sandals, summer shoes, cajun shrimp opi nail polish

  • The toe loop is all the rage for summer sandals this season. I just scored these flats (shown above) on sale in my favorite powder blue hue. (Here’s a similar version of these for less!)
  • Next, these dainty snakeskin sandals could go with any and every summer look! I’m saving my pennies to splurge on them. (Here’s another similar version for less in a leopard print.)
  • You might’ve seen these espadrilles on this Insta post, and, let me tell you, I’ve been wearing them¬†constantly. They’re comfy enough to wear all day, go with just about anything, and the ankle tie is so flattering. Castaner is a top-notch, Spanish espadrille brand; each pair is at least $50 cheaper at this retailer (get 15% off as a new customer with code NEW15). I’m so in love with my pair that I want another ASAP. This neutral pair is on my wishlist! For sizing, read their guide and measure your foot for accuracy. I went with the 37, and it’s a perfect fit!
  • I wear these platform slip-on espadrilles about 3 times a week to work. Especially on days when I’m heading to pilates mid-day or after work because they’re easy to wear with leggings and pop on & off! They’re available in tons of color options for under $60 here and here.

Summer Essentials: Accessories

  • Like I mentioned earlier, statement earrings are my go-to right now. And there’s no better place to turn for affordable, cute, and lightweight statement earrings than Gresham Jewelry! Use code GJxASHLEY for 15% off your purchase!
    • These bamboo and butterfly earrings have been a major hit around here! They’re seriously so lightweight (as are all of her earrings!) and can truly go with any outfit.
    • How cool are these geo/square earrings?! I love how modern they are while also being a classic earring shape for everyday wear. They come in lots of colors – I have the ‘Grey’ color and am eyeing the pink next…
    • This $28 pair makes such a statement with its simplicity! The white and gold are just so ideal for summertime.
    • Rainbow is big time trending right now, and this pair of earrings can help you add in a subtle ROYGBIV flare to any look.
  • I posted this $25 bag a while ago on ‘Dupe Deals’ on my Insta Stories! It is so darling and fits everything you need in your everyday bag. It also works as a pool or beach bag, and you don’t have to worry about it getting wet or dirty because you can just easily wipe it clean.

Summer Essentials: Swimsuits

Cute Maxi Dresses under $100 for Every Occasion 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

While I always love to be both chic and stylish, comfort is my main priority 95% of the time. And there really isn’t anything more ideal for both style and comfort than cute maxi dresses. I ordered this leopard print dress at the beginning of the season and have absolutely adored it! After wearing it for the fifth time or so, I got looking at more maxi dress options that could work for this spring and summer for weekends, work, etc. I’ve put together my findings below by category – I hope you find something comfy and cute!

Cute Maxi Dresses

Casual Maxi Dress Options:

  • This striped, puff-sleeve dress is a DREAM for comfort! Make sure you size down one since it runs a bit oversized.
  • I love the added belt with this dress because it gives it a tailored touch for everyday wear!
  • This off-the-shoulder dress reminds me of a Mara Hoffman version! It has been selling out over and over, so get it while it’s back in stock!
  • There’s nothing a pleated maxi dress can’t fix – especially this one in that powder blue “it color”!
  • If you caught my Friday Finds on Insta Stories last week, you’ll know I’ve been eyeing this amazing floral maxi for weeks! It’s at the top of my list for cute maxi dresses this season.

Work Maxi Dress Options:

  • This striped shirtdress style is made for work and could go with loafers, espadrilles, and even sneakers at a more casual office.
  • Here is the same version of my dress in black! I recommend going true to size or sizing down one size.
  • A lightweight linen option like this one would make for a work outfit worth repeating over and over.
  • If you’re into the prairie style of dress, then this one is a must-have and SO perfect for work and weekends!

Vacation/Poolside Maxi Dress Options:

  • There’s nothing I love more than a leopard slip dress moment! Size up one if you’re a bit fuller in the hips as slip dresses tend to run pretty straight up and down. Or try this more A-line style!
  • This blue and white satin kaftan just screams summer to me! I’d wear this to the pool for sure.
  • Loving the tied sleeves on this dress! So perfect for warm days by the beach on vacay. Same goes for this gorgeous classic black option!
  • This floral, button-up maxi just screams vacation to me.
  • This $18 maxi was made to be a pool cover-up. It also comes in tons of colors/patterns!

Dainty Gold Jewelry under $100 You Can’t Live Without

Dainty Gold Jewelry under $100 You Can’t Live Without 900 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

It always shocks people that I’ve found so much of my everyday dainty gold jewelry on Amazon for under $100 (not sponsored – I wish! Just have to share!). Since I’m not one to withhold my shopping secrets, I wanted to spill all the details on the best dainty gold jewelry pieces I’ve found. These delicate and classic earrings, rings, and necklaces are perfect for wearing nonstop. This is for the glitz and glam lovers who always need solid basics and for those just looking for an everyday touch of sparkle!

How to Find Affordable Dainty Gold Jewelry on Amazon

Before you start, know the difference between gold-plate, gold-filled, and solid gold

For starters, it’s important to be educated about the descriptions of these pieces. You’ll see gold-filled, gold-plated, or solid gold pieces. Each will make a difference in the price and durability of your purchase. Gold-filled and gold-plated are alloys that blend gold with another base metal such as brass or sterling silver. Gold-filled typically lasts longer than gold-plate and doesn’t tarnish as quickly. Brass tends to break out people’s skin, so I always buy gold-filled with/over sterling silver! Real gold is the real deal that definitely won’t tarnish. You’ll see that the price will increase as the quality of gold increases. I purchase 10K and 14K gold pieces for more affordable everyday pieces. 18K and 24K are really nice but involve a much heftier price tag!

Gold Huggie Hoops and Earrings on Amazon

I’d say that one of my most-asked questions is where I got these gold huggie hoops. They’re 14K gold, $33, and I now own three pairs because they’re so good. I’m sharing some more of my favorite small hoop and delicate everyday earrings below…

These $21 teeny tiny gold ball studs are perfect if you have more than one piercing on each lobe. With three piercings per ear, sometimes other earrings can interfere if I want to wear statement earrings up front. I pop these studs into piercing two and three to have something there but to not distract from the earring in piercing one!

I spent well over $50 on a pair of earrings like these before I discovered this $9 pair! These add an edge to your look and something different with the dangling spike!

A lot of the time I like wearing three hoops on each ear. I have been so impressed with the quality of these pave CZ hoops and have worn them for weeks on end. These black pave hoops just came in, and I haven’t taken them out since! A pair of rainbow pave hoops (and these ear threaders!) are on their way to me, so I can’t wait to wear the white, black, and rainbow hoops all together!

Gold Rings on Amazon

SHOP MY LOOK:

Thin Gold Rings | Dress | Bag

My mom will call me “Ringa” (a play on Ringo, ha!) when I’m loading on #alltherings. I don’t know why, but I have been drawn to rings as long as I can remember! I love simple, dainty gold jewelry when it comes to my rings, too. Always go for the classics so that they’re easy to style and go with everything you wear!

Wear this gold wedding band style ring as an everyday, classic statement.

This rope-textured ring is inspired by a David Yurman version and less than half the price. This would be a great stacking ring if you ordered more than one. Or a great texture for mixing and matching!

I also¬†love¬†wearing whisper-thin gold rings all over my fingers like in the photo above. This $18 version from Amazon is to die for. Click on the seller’s name to find the ring in your size! (I bought mine from Etsy.) Buy a few in your ring finger size and then a few bigger to put on your pointer, thumb, or middle finger!

My pinky ring was custom made for me as a gift, but here is a very similar version for under $65!

Gold Layering Necklaces on Amazon

SHOP MY LOOK:

Blazer | Tee | Jeans | Heart Necklace

Who else can’t get enough of the layered coin necklace look?! I think it’s so chic while also being so cool and on trend. To get the layered look, try to space them out by necklace length. I usually go with a 16 inch, 18 inch, and 20 inch when I’m wearing my layered coin necklaces. This way they won’t be laying right on top of each other!

Here is a $23 coin necklace that would be a great way to start or add to your layering! Then consider adding in an oval shaped option in like this.

As I mentioned, I’m not usually one to go for gold-plated brass pieces, but this necklace is said to be made with high-quality brass that does not cause breakouts. This $12 necklace reminds me of the Missoma version and would be a really cool addition to a layered look!

I’m always one to go for a personalized touch. This initial disc necklace is a must-buy for $8 or this one for $15! I’ve found that shopping for children’s gold jewelry can lead to some major price cuts and steals!

This rosary-style necklace is so cool and makes for a simple statement all on its own!

It’s also always a classic and easy move to just wear a simple, elegant gold chain. I love the open link look of this one. Or this ball chain style could add some texture!

You can never go wrong with something simple with just one pendant like this one!

Here is a dupe of the Tiffany’s Elsa Perretti heart necklace for $75! This would make an amazing Mother’s Day gift.

This gold bar necklace would be amazing on its own or a great option for engraving to personalize it!

Last but not least, I have been loving Amy (Fashion Jackson)’s and Ashley (The Teacher Diva)’s delicate ball chain bracelets. I was thrilled when I found this $10 version on Amazon! I ordered two to stack them.

I hope these affordable, dainty gold jewelry finds add a luxe touch to your everyday look. I always link my jewelry and accessories here or on my LIKEtoKNOW.it profile so that y’all can stay updated!

P.S. You may not know that I’m a bit of a junkie when it comes to discovering deals on Amazon! Don’t miss my post on the best designer dupes you can find on Amazon. Think amazing dupes for the Goyard tote, Valentino shoes, and more!

Top 10 Cruelty Free Highlighters for Everyday Wear

Top 10 Cruelty Free Highlighters for Everyday Wear 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

With warmer temps and more sunshine, it’s time to work on that dewy springtime glow with some cruelty free highlighters! I’ve rounded up my top 10 that deliver the best results when it comes to glow.

As some of you might know, I made the switch to using cruelty-free everything a little over a year ago. It has been one of the best choices I’ve made and has now led me to so many amazing clean beauty products as well! If you’re interested in making the switch to cruelty-free and clean beauty products, read this post on how to start and which products to switch first. It’s helpful to get educated about the harmful chemicals to look out for on labels. Credo has a complete ‘dirty list’ and very detailed explanations of the side effects etc!

cruelty free makeup, cruelty free highlighters, highlighter makeup how to apply, cream highlighter, becca highlighter | Top 10 Cruelty Free Highlighters featured by top US beauty blog, Never Without Lipstick

These 10 cruelty free highlighters are the best for everyday glow…

Cruelty Free and Vegan Powder Highlighters

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Pressed Highlighter (cruelty-free): The Becca highlighter is a cult-favorite for a reason. The pigment is unbeatable, the color range is huge, and it’ll last you forever. I wear this one in either ‘Champagne Pop’ or ‘Rosy Quartz’ on a daily basis! 90% of the time I reach for a powder highlighter; it’s the best for my combination/oily skin. As my skin gets oily throughout the day, sometimes creamier highlighters have transferred down my face a bit. You don’t have to worry about that with powder! These also come in mini size which are perfect for travel.

Pixi by Petra Glow-Y Duo (cruelty-free): Definitely turn to this brand for affordable but high-performing products. This highlighter duo is well formulated to bring a depth of glow to your look. Since there are two colors, you can wear each by itself or together for more depth to your highlight. I love how delicately this one wears!

Urban Decay Backtalk Palette (cruelty-free): I was thrilled when Urban Decay gifted me this gorgeous palette (thank you!). It seriously has everything you need all in one place. You can go from light feminine looks to smokier more romantic vibes. BUT an added bonus of this palette is the light pink shimmery highlighter it includes! The soft pink undertones of the highlighter complement any rosy or pink blush and add dimension to your look. I also think pink highlighter hues are a great place to start just since they tend toward the more natural glow realm!

Hourglass Strobe Lighting Powder (vegan & cruelty-free): Hourglass cosmetics are high-quality all around. Their highlighters are no exception! These highlighter powders are specially formulated to catch the light and give you an easy, effortless glow-from-within look. Since the product is aiming for a more naturally glowing look, these do go on a bit lighter/are a bit more sheer than other powders.

(P.S. I also highly recommend their bronzer¬†for exceptional blendability and natural shades that don’t give harsh contour lines. I also have been using their stick foundation for over a year now and will never ever go back to liquid. If you’re in the market for a new foundation, I highly, highly recommend it!)

Liquid and Cream Highlighters

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Highlighter Wand (cruelty-free): This highlighter really delivers when it comes to glow. It’s a must-buy when it comes to cruelty free highlighters! It’ll look like you just got your makeup professionally done. Whenever my friend wears this one, she always¬†gets so many compliments! You can just dab this one on your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, cupid’s bow etc. to get the desired glow. I’d start out with a little and then add if you want more shimmer. If I really want to be a dewy goddess, I put this one on and then the Becca powder over it to set it.

rms beauty Luminizer (clean & cruelty-free): This would be your go-to for a very natural glow. Are you the type of girl that just wears a bit of foundation or concealer? Add this into your routine. I have the satin-pearl shade and anytime I wear it I love how it appears like I’m glowing from within. It is coconut oil based, so I would apply it sparingly if you have more oily skin! Because of my oilier skin, I can’t live without powder over my foundation. This one doesn’t layer over powder well so I apply it after my foundation and then take a beautyblender to apply my powder just in my T-zone!

Rituel de Fille Rare Light Luminzer (clean & cruelty-free): This product is so gorgeous on and the packaging/branding is so luxe! I have it in the ‘Anthelion’ shade and it’s like I’m adding 24K gold flakes onto my skin. The pigment is so rich and really delivers. This would be another great addition for any of you makeup minimalists. My same application tips from above apply here too if your skin tends toward the oily combo side!

Hourglass Highlighting Stick (vegan & cruelty-free): If you’re wanting to try out highlighter in your routine, this highlighter stick would be a good place to start. It adds a sheer but natural glow. Once you’re ready to amp it up a bit, layer an Hourglass highlighter powder over it for more of a statement.

Glossier Haloscope (vegan, clean & cruelty-free): Another affordable ($22) option for those new to wearing highlighter or minimal makeup people. I love its size because it’s easy to travel with or throw in your makeup bag to add glow on the go!

Juice Beauty Illuminating Primer (clean & cruelty-free): Now here is a different route to highlight altogether! If you’re looking to get a lit-from-within, more subtle glow, then this would be your product of choice. I recommend starting out by using this product sparingly as a primer or just on the high points of your face under your foundation. I went a little too heavy the first time I used it, and my face ended up looking too shiny all over! You can also easily mix a drop or two of this into your regular primer or liquid foundation for an added glowy touch.

I hope you’re ready to get glowing with these cruelty free highlighters! I’ve loved adding in a bit of shimmer to my everyday makeup routine, and I think you will, too. You can see more of my must-have clean and cruelty-free makeup and skincare products here!

Do y’all¬†get the Amazon carousel ads on Insta and swipe through¬†all of¬†the¬†items?! It gets me every.dang.time whether it’s for clothes,¬†kitchen appliances, or home decor! I just have to see what kind of deals are out there and which brands I haven’t discovered yet. As a result of all that ad swiping and additional digging, I’ve now developed a pretty solid list of, in my opinion, some of the best designer dupes on Amazon. I’ve purchased some of these designer¬†dupes so I can speak to their quality and similarity to the real deal. I’m also an avid reader of product reviews, so you better believe I’ve read those for the items I haven’t purchased to get more insight.

If you’ve been reading Never Without Lipstick for a while, you probably know that my shopping philosophy¬†is to shop smart. Invest in classic, high-quality wardrobe staples and buy trendier items under the $100 price point. All of that to say that I do appreciate investing in real designer items when I know how much I’ll use them and how timeless the¬†style or design is. But there are some designer items that go through a trendy period and it just makes more sense to spend less on a great lookalike item instead. That’s what guided my selection for these designer dupes on Amazon list!

Keep reading to see the deals you can score on amazing Amazon dupes for some of the hottest designer¬†items right now…

The Best Designer Dupes on Amazon:

  • Valentino Rockstud Pump Dupe: Kaitlyn Pan was one of the first brands I came across when searching for designer dupes on Amazon. I was amazed at how many designer dupe shoe options¬†were available from this brand and all of the rave reviews. These pumps are a very good dupe of the real Valentino Rockstud pumps (I owned a pair of the real ones and compared!). They’re genuine leather, made in tons of color options, and the studs are a dead match for the Valentino ones!
  • Valentino Rockstud Sandal Dupe: I’ve got my¬†eye on these dupes for the summer. I’d be wearing them with anything and everything!
  • Stuart Weitzman Lowland Dupes: I mentioned these boots on my Insta story a while back. Another winner from Kaitlyn Pan! Saving over $700 to get an eerily similar pair of boots? Done. Do beware that these OTK boots are pretty fitted through the leg so that they stay up. I’m only able to wear mine with skirts and dresses, not over jeans or leggings. Just something to consider before buying! Kaitlyn Pan also has dupes for the Stuart Weitzman Hiline and Tieland boots.
  • Chloe Susannah Bootie Dupes: These booties are currently on their way to me, so I will immediately update all of you once they arrive. I looked through a lot of different brands offering similar booties, but this pair seemed to be the highest quality based on the reviews. Not to mention the wider range of color selection!
  • Goyard Card Holder Dupe: This card holder has been selling so much on NWL! It’s so convenient to keep all of my cards in one small, easily transported¬†place. I can throw it into any size bag and it never weighs me down like a traditional size wallet did! The Goyard print isn’t hard to replicate especially on such a small item. It’s genuine leather and I’ve had many people think that it was real! It’s always fun to surprise people with the fact that it’s only $20 on Amazon ūüôā
  • Hermes Clic-Clic ‘H’ Bracelet Dupe: This is another item that really isn’t hard to replicate and could be mistaken for the real deal so easily. Or if you do have the real version, consider buying this bracelet in the same color. You won’t be devastated if you lose it or it (God forbid) gets stolen when you’re traveling!
  • Chloe Nile Bag Dupe
  • Goyard Tote Dupe: This tote would be perfect for work or travel! Such a throw-everything-in-and-go option. I’d also love to get this clutch in the large size to use as a laptop case!
  • Hermes Oran Sandal Dupe: These sandals in white are also on my spring/summer wishlist. This is one of the best dupes of this sandal that I have seen based on how the “H” looks. This is one of the designer dupes on Amazon I’d recommend adding to your wishlist now! Check back in as we get into spring for more sizes to become available.
  • Celine Square Sunglasses Dupe
  • Gucci Fanny Pack Dupe: This is a great example of what I was talking about above. The Gucci fanny packs are SO cute, but I don’t see any reason to spend upwards of $500 on one! Better to get the same idea for much, much less with this dupe.
  • Gucci Belt Dupe: Make sure to carefully read the sizing before ordering!
  • Celine Belt Bag Dupe
  • Hermes ‘H’ Belt Dupe
  • Louis Vuitton Damier Ebene Wallet Dupe
  • Hermes ‘H’ Blanket Dupe: What a classic gorgeous staple for your home! And for MUCH less – I think you’re saving in the thousands here. I’d love it on my couch or at the foot of my bed.

HELLO AGAIN!

I know that it has been a short while since there’s been a new post up on NWL, but I am so glad to be back. I took a bit of a “blogging break” for most of this month to really dig into my brand and my mission/purpose with this blog. I want to be¬†as helpful as I can possibly be¬†to each one of you that reads my blog posts or my Instagram captions. So that’s what will be going into each post that I write on my blog and what you can expect from me! If there is ever a post that you’d like me to write about, please feel free to email me at contact@neverwithoutlipstick.com or just in general if you ever have a question on how to style a certain piece or what to wear to a specific event!

And now onto this outfit…

After two trips to California this summer (San Fran 3-day Guide coming on Thursday!), I think that the laid back yet edgy styles started to rub off on me. Whenever I travel I’m always looking at what other girls are wearing to get inspiration for my own wardrobe as well as some research, if you will, to be able to tell others what to wear to certain destinations. And this outfit is a blend of some of the key pieces I saw over and over again on my trips.

Oversized Denim Jacket

Where has this jacket been all my life?! I’ve always considered my jean jacket as a staple in my closet, but I had never really considered how versatile an oversized version could be. Especially when the temps start to drop and you need a bit more coverage than a more cropped jacket! It’s like wearing your favorite oversized cardigan but just in denim. I think it just adds the most edgy/cool/casual vibe to any outfit that I pair it with whether that’s with a mini dress or my favorite pair of black jeans!

Floral Sundress

Before I had even been in LA for a full 24 hours I knew that I needed a dress like this and was on the hunt right away. I can’t tell you how many cute Cali girls were wearing flirty and feminine dresses like this one. But what I love most about this style of dress is that it can so easily be styled a bunch of different ways. I’ve worn it so many times since it came in and I’ve been able to style it with block heels for a classic look or sneakers to keep things more casual.¬†I also LOVE the fit on this dress; it’s so flattering with the tie-waist and a-line skirt. Every time I wear it I feel like I’ve lost 5 pounds because of how flattering this silhouette is!

Street Style Sneakers

I can’t believe I’ve been able to hold out on buying Adidas sneakers for a year now. So many of my study abroad friends were buying them while we were in Paris, but I just couldn’t commit. I just didn’t think that the Superstar was the right fit for my body type and style. The toe was just too rounded and it shortened my leg in a way that I just wasn’t loving. It wasn’t until I visited San Fran that I saw a girl wearing the Campus sneaker¬†in ‘Clear Brown’ and knew that I had to have a pair for myself. She was wearing a sleek trench, skinny jeans, and these sneakers and it was just the perfect easy casual outfit to throw on over and over again. Not to mention comfy! I found these sneakers at Urban Outfitters for a much better price (they’re currently on sale for $50!!) and got a size 7 based on reviews that they run a bit big – they fit perfectly. These sneakers will be going with just about everything this season for me: skinny jeans, dresses, track pants, you name it!

You know when people say, “Black, like my soul!”? Ugh, it bugs me. Black is one of the palette pillars of my closet, so I don’t like people misrepresenting my love! I adore the color black, but I don’t have a dark soul, okay? Glad we’ve covered that. Now onto the point…

Have you ever been hesitant to wear an outfit that’s all the same color? I know it can be a little freaky at first, but I’m here to say that with a few tips and tricks you could be onto styling some of the most chic outfits you’ve ever worn, especially to work. Thinking up new outfits for work each day can be exhausting, so knowing how to throw together some monochrome pieces together will reduce your decision making time. And then maybe grab a few more winks of sleep? Let’s get to my tips!

  • Opt for tailored pieces to make pairing items of the same color easier like collared shirts or a-line fit skirts – these are also very office appropriate as well
  • Pick dynamic designs like bell sleeves or cascading ruffles to add interest to a monochromatic outfit
  • Use accessories to break up the same color like belts, scarves, or earrings – but make sure to choose a neutral color as an accent so that you don’t take away from the monochromatic look
  • Add in a contrasting color in with layers like a denim jacket or military jacket if you need a little warmth in the office

And don’t forget that the Nordstrom Sale ends on August 6th, so make sure to grab any items you’ve had your eye on! I’m sharing some of my favorite items to wear at the office below:

Who’s ready for the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?

I’m going to be 100% honest about each thing I purchased from the Nordstrom sale and going into why I kept what I did and why I sent back certain items. There are so many items in this sale and I found it difficult not to want everything. But once the packages came in and I tried everything on it became clear that some pieces just weren’t worth the hype while some were major winners for my wardrobe.

But before we get into it, I want to start off with a few little tips and tricks that I’ve learned while shopping from the Nordstrom Sale:

  • Use the “Buy Now & Pickup In-Store” option as much as possible: Being able to pick up my purchases within the same day of buying them was so nice for so many reasons. I was able to very quickly size up which pieces probably weren’t the quality I was looking for and vice versa. When I was opening up packages yesterday, there were definitely some pieces that I know I would’ve returned on the spot had I been able to pick them up in store. That definitely would’ve saved me some time having to go back and forth to the store to make returns!
  • Stick to the brands you know and love:¬†There are so many brands that caught my eye during this sale that I hadn’t heard of before. While this is exciting, it can also be misleading because you’re unfamiliar with sizing or quality from these brands. I decided to try items from really affordable brands and this worked out for me on a few pieces but not so much on the majority of items. I think I got caught up in the crazy good price point and then ended up disappointed when the quality just wasn’t quite there or it looked nothing like what was on the website.
  • Read product descriptions about materials:¬†This is really just a part B to the above tip, but just make sure that you know a bit more about the fabrics of the items you’re ordering. When I buy something (especially for the winter), I want to know that I can wear it to death and it’ll hold up for more than just the few months of a season. Look for items that’re made with wool/wool-blend or have a higher amount of cotton rather than polyester or other synthetic fibers.
  • Dig further into customer reviews:¬†One thing I LOVE about Nordstrom is the loads of customer reviews on each product. There is seriously nothing more helpful when you’re trying to make a decision about a piece!

WHAT I KEPT

  • 1.State Waylan Slip-On Sneaker: I just got back from a work trip last night and immediately opened these up, and I was immediately obsessed and considering ordering another pair. The reviews said the shoe runs true to size which made me nervous because a lot of the time sneakers can run small for me. But I went with a size 7 and it really does fit perfectly. They are SO cute and sleek (basically look exactly like the Vince version) and the sole is slightly platform which is super comfy and adds some much appreciated length to my legs. Now I’ve got my eye on the olive green color…
  • Trouve Layering Tee:¬† I WANT EVERY COLOR. This tee is going to be my¬†everything¬†this fall and winter. I had barely even slipped it over my head before I was thinking, “yes, yes, yes!” I like that it’s fitted (but not TOO clingy aka room for the occasional bloating ūüėČ ) because that means it’ll tuck in seamlessly to high-waisted jeans or skirts this winter. I got it in a small and it’s a great fit; sleeves are a bit long but you can scrunch them up a pinch without it looking weird. And I seriously couldn’t even finish writing this paragraph before I ordered it in grey…because it’s STILL IN STOCK.
  • BP Lace Cami:¬†Y’all love this cami! It has been one of the top selling items from NWL during this sale – y’all are amazing, seriously. It’s currently sold out but DON’T WORRY – this one is too good for them not to restock. I went with a size small which has been a perfect fit and the straps are adjustable if you’re worried about the neckline being revealing. [¬†In-stock alternative here¬†]
  • BP Rib Knit Cardigan: Over the moon about this cardigan, let me tell ya. It’s just the right weight to be warm in a cold office or in the grocery store this summer if you’re wanting to wear it now. And it’s also the perfect weight to wear in the “colder” seasons we have here in Texas. I went with a size small for a closer fit, and y’all, it’s SO flattering. If that’s the fit you’re looking for, I recommend sizing down. It’s currently pretty sold out but will be restocked – I will keep you updated! [¬†In-stock alternative here¬†]
  • BP Cold Shoulder Tunic:¬†This tunic is also another fave for you guys! I really love it and honestly wish it was appropriate to wear it now. I love the tunic fit and it’s just the right weight for fall transitional time. [¬†In-stock alternative here or here¬†]

RETURNS

  • BlankNYC Suede Jacket: This one was a bummer for me. I know that I had previously written about my love for this jacket, and I’m still absolutely obsessed with my other BlankNYC jacket, but I think that this brand changed some things about the fit of this piece. I don’t always have an easy time buying jackets because a lot of them will be too tight in the shoulders when I cross my arms. So with this jacket, the fit in the shoulders was just right but the sleeves were too long and the fit through the body was too big and boxy. You might be thinking I just could’ve sized down to a small, but then I wouldn’t be able to move around very much as the fit around the shoulders would be too tight. Now I know this brand to run very true to size, so for those of you who may have narrower shoulders, this jacket could still be a great fit for you. But I just wanted to let y’all know that it just didn’t work out for me, so I am going to be on the lookout for another suede moto jacket this season and will keep you updated on what I find.
  • BP Bell Cuff Sweater:¬†I really love this sweater! It’s SO CUTE. But like I mentioned in this post, it fit well in the arms but it was too short on my torso (I have a long torso!) so I decided to order it in a medium to see if that would help with length. But that size up only left me with a sweater that was too baggy and boxy and the bell sleeve cuffs were hanging like sad deflated balloons ūüôĀ NOOOO! I am mega-bummed about this one but I have no doubt in my mind that I’ll be hunting down other bell sleeve sweaters like a mad woman – so stay tuned!
  • BP V-Neck Pullover:¬†This pullover had all the potential to be a contender for my heart. But alas no such luck. I ordered the small because the site says it runs a bit large. Online it looked like it fit more like a tunic but I didn’t think that it was long enough to drape over my butt for some coverage. If I were to size up to a medium for length then it would definitely be way too low cut and I’d need to wear a cami under it or something which is fine but just not ideal for me. Back to Nordy’s it goes. I now know to stick with my fave thermal pullovers from Madewell!
  • Dreamers by Debut Rib Knit Open Cardigan: This cardigan might have been one of the biggest disappointments from this sale ūüôĀ I was just certain that it was going to be everything I wanted and more, but unfortunately, I was wrong! The color just was not what I saw on the internet and really was more of a very blah cream tone. It was also super chunky, and the way it laid on my body was so unflattering. And the fabric just felt so synthetic and almost plastic-y to me which was a turnoff for something that I wanted to snuggle up in all the time. Back to square one on finding a replacement creamy cardigan!

WAITING ON THE VERDICT

  • UPDATE – KEEP*** Marc Fisher Yomi Chealsea booties: I LOVE these booties and they’re actually the only pair of shoes I got from the Nordstrom Sale. I just wasn’t thrilled by any of the other pairs that were in my price range. But I always end up loving any pair of Marc Fisher shoes that I get, so I knew that I couldn’t go wrong here. There isn’t a fall/winter season that goes by that I don’t want a pointy-toe boot and these did just the trick for me visually. Marc Fisher runs very true to size for me so I went with a size 7 in these. The 7 is a perfect fit and they are so easy to get on with the gussets on the side!
  • UPDATE – RETURN** Lush Side Slit Tee: I ended up really not liking the way that this shirt fit. I ordered it in a small and the fit was too close on my chest and not an oversized look. I really prefer the more relaxed v-neck neckline on my favorite Madewell tees, if you’re looking for that I’d recommend sizing up one size for a looser fit. [¬†In-stock alternative here¬†]

WAITING FOR A RESTOCK

  • Free People Oversized Plaid Tunic: I had this bad boy in my cart the first day of early access and I didn’t get it! I am kicking myself now. I LOVE the high-low fit and it looks exactly like something I would incorporate into my fall wardrobe uniform.
  • Leith Easy Circle Cardigan: Although I may be currently in a vulnerable state when it comes to cardigans, I’m willing to put myself out there again when it comes to this one. It’s currently only available in blue in XS, but I will be patiently awaiting a restock of this sweater in cream!
