Have you been wondering what to wear when it’s fall but it doesn’t feel like it outside? Me too! I had to share 3 fall outfits for warm weather with y’all because I’m sure you’re wanting to still stay on season even when the temps go crazy. These 3 outfits can be easy go-to’s for those of you who experience two different seasons in one day or fall during the week and summer by the weekend!

FALL OUTFIT FOR WARM WEATHER #1

Tee, jean jacket, leggings + sneakers:

I saw an outfit similar to this on Pinterest, and I knew right away that it would be the perfect go-to warm weather fall outfit. Since it doesn’t really get cold here in Texas until late November (it’s usually colder by now!), this is a good layered look to have on repeat. Not to mention, it’s crazy comfy.

FALL OUTFIT FOR WARM WEATHER #2

Short Sleeve Dress + Booties:

Okay guys – remember this post? THIS DRESS. It really is everything you need and more in an everyday, do-it-all dress. I’ve worn it with a cardigan and over the knee boots when it’s cooler and by itself with pointy toe booties when it’s warmer out. I have it in two colors now – and it’s $46. (Also, its satin twin is on sale for $29 – run, don’t walk to get it)

FALL OUTFIT FOR WARM WEATHER #3

Blazer, Tee, Leggings + Sneakers

This is similar to the first outfit just with a super chic edge that you could even take into the office. A tuxedo blazer is the perfect lightweight layer to throw on or drape over a tee when temps are a bit warmer in the fall months. For a warm weather fall outfit, this one has been another one I’ve styled a bunch of ways with different blazers.

Lately I’ve been looking at coats and sweaters, and I got overwhelmed with how many options there are. But if you know me, you know that I’m always one to hunt down the right fashion investment piece. When it comes to fall fashion investment pieces, I like to first search for the right fit and then decide based on the versatility of the piece. If you’re going to invest more in a piece, you better make sure that it’s something you’ll wear over and over again with multiple outfits.

With the temperatures officially dropping where I live, it felt like a good time to discuss how I pick my fall fashion investment pieces and which ones earned their spot in the top five.

  1. Burberry Quilted Coat: This was my Christmas present last year, and I have worn it so much. I wear it over workout clothes, formal clothes, work clothes etc. These coats are built to last, and I know I’ll be wearing mine for years and years.
  2. Stuart Weitzman Over the Knee Boots: These were a super sale score and the result of impressive patience on my part. After going through multiple lookalike pairs of these boots, I decided that, instead of spending my money on similar boots, I wanted to save up to get the real deal. And boy has it been worth it. These guys are durable and so flattering.
  3. Leather jacket/Suede moto jacket: If you read this caption on my Instagram, you’d know that I used to be scared of wearing a leather jacket. That fear came from not really knowing how to wear one. Now I wear one with so many outfits and my closet wouldn’t be complete without it. It took finding the jacket with the right fit for my body type (it’s best to go try on in person) and some research for inspiration on Pinterest.
  4. Trench coat: Are you starting to notice an outerwear theme here? Good! The key to a fall closet with a solid foundation lies in your coats and jackets. You don’t need very many, but you have to have the styles and cuts that fit you the best and blend with your style. A trench coat had been on my list for quite some time. When Club Monaco was offering 25% off, it was the right moment to strike. A trench is a classic addition to your wardrobe that’s great for warmth and even during rainy weather.
  5. Cashmere sweater: Like I mentioned in this post, I wanted to add two signature sweater styles in cashmere to my wardrobe. With birthday gift cards, I made the decision to invest in a turtleneck and a pullover for this season and many seasons to come. When choosing a fall investment piece, make sure to invest in styles that are regularly in style year over year.

While fall fashion investment pieces are indeed, investments, I still avoid paying full price for these items. There are too many sale opportunities that come around; it’s all about being patient. For some of my investment pieces, I’ve used gift cards from birthdays, waited for Black Friday deals, or taken advantage of discount opportunities in order to add these items into my wardrobe. I love nice things, but I’m a bargain hunter/price comparer at my core!

Speaking of Black Friday, there’s about to be some amazing content released on my site to get you in the planning mood THIS WEEK. From scoring deals on wardrobe essentials (like fall investment pieces) to knocking out your holiday shopping before December 1st, I’ll have you covered here on Never Without Lipstick. Everything you’ll need will be on the ‘Holiday Shop‘ tab at the top of my site.

3 Easy Halloween Costume Ideas for the Office

3 Easy Halloween Costume Ideas for the Office 1200 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

It must be Halloween time because I’ve been eating candy nonstop lately. They have it at work and I can’t resist! Since I’m in the Halloween mood, I thought that I’d share three Halloween costume ideas for the office that’ll get you in the spirit without going over the top. Each piece is super affordable so you don’t break the bank on a “costume” – but each of these costumes could easily be re-translated to a work outfit as well.

Each of these halloween costume ideas for the office can also be made from pieces you’ve got in your closet already!

Halloween Costume Ideas for the Office: Veronica Lodge from Riverdale

Want a spoiler alert? THIS is going to be my Halloween costume this year! It’s a great option because a lot of Veronica’s outfits on the show are perfect for the office but have that edge that makes them just right for a Halloween costume.

Halloween Costume Ideas for the Office:  Cher from Clueless

Coincidence that Cher’s go-to plaid blazers are a major fall trend right now? I think not. This outfit is so easy to put together as a costume. And you can take certain pieces and add them to your go-to work/weekend outfit. Remembering any great Clueless quotes will really make the costume, I think 😉

Halloween Costume Ideas for the Office:  Wonder Woman

Obviously every year should be the year of the girl/woman, but I just feel like this year has seen so many victories for women (still have a long way to go, though) and it’s time to celebrate that! Be your inner wonder woman at your office Halloween festivities. Just pop a white button down and a blazer over your Wonder Woman tee – top it off with her crown!

Do you celebrate Halloween at your office? I’d love to know what halloween costume ideas for the office you’re coming up with!

The art of fall layering is no easy trick to master. There are so many different ways to layer, but I know that I always want to feel comfortable, chic, and warm when it gets cooler out. You probably have your go-to fall layering styles down already: sweater, jacket, scarf, repeat. Or the always-cute button down under sweater with jeans and booties.

love to layer and love those layering styles, but I found myself wanting to discover new ways to put a spin on my layering. Naturally, I took to digging around Pinterest and I wanted to share 5 ways to freshen up your fall layering styles this season!

Cropped Sweater Over White Button Down:

Button down tunic | Sweater | Jeans | Loafers | Bag ($66 dupe here)

Style blogger Ashley of Never Without Lipstick shares 5 ways to update your fall layering for outfits | layering outfits, layering outfits fall, layering outfits simple, outfit ideas, outfits for women, outfit inspiration

Throwing this cropped sweater over my white button down tunic was just the right trick to recreate a look I’d been loving online. This is definitely something I’ll wear to the office on a regular basis. You could pop the cropped sweater over a ruffle hem dress too and wear it with your favorite OTK boots!

Layering Your Layers:

Image via PinterestImage via Pinterest

You know when you walk out the door and get in your car you need your coat but when you get to the restaurant for dinner you just need a light jacket layer underneath? The two outfit pics I’m sharing above are two great ways to layer your layers, ha! It’s all in the art of draping. You can really up your fall layering game by draping your wool coat or your leather jacket over lighter layers like a cardigan or a suede moto jacket. This way you’re getting the added warmth you need without bothering with stuffing chunky sleeves into your coat sleeve – the worst!

Use a Tee as Your Base:

Image via Pinterest

Last week I wore a pullover tunic to work, but it’s a v-neck and I didn’t want it too low cut for the office. I threw on a tee underneath and it was the perfect (and coziest) fix. Your favorite tee can really be the base of most of your fall layering. When temps really drop, it’ll be a nice added layer for warmth. But for right now when it’s actually fall in the mornings and then spring/summer by noon, it’s a great base layer that you can wear by itself once the temps go up by the end of the day.

Play with Different Sweater Necklines:

Image via Pinterest

While layering with a crewneck sweater is usually the easiest, it doesn’t mean that you can’t experiment with a cowl neck, v-neck, or turtleneck sweater for your layers. Like in the outfit pic above, you can take a more cowl neck sweater and throw it over a collared chambray button down for another updated version of this layering style. This is a great way to get more out of your pullovers with different necklines and to wear them more than one way.

Repurpose Summer Pieces:

Image via Pinterest

If you live in Texas, do you ever really put away your lighter weight, “summery” layers? Uh, NO. Fall transitional lasts for a solid 3 months before it’s really time for purely coats and sweaters! That’s why I had to include this fall outfit inspo with a cami. Pop a lace cami over a thin turtleneck layer for an easy layered look that doesn’t involve any heavy coats or jackets. With this kind of layering, it’s best to stick with neutrals in the same color family or classic pairings like black and white!

There’s lots more outfit inspo and tips/tricks where this came from! Click here to head to my Pinterest and follow along for help with all of your styling and inspiration needs.

It’s the weekend again – yippee!! Did anyone else’s week fly by? I’m sorry if I was MIA on the blog this week; I’m using today to get back on the ball and get some great posts lined up for y’all. I don’t know about you, but I feel like all the best sales happen over the weekend. I just had to share a few with you because some of my favorites are killing it on the sale game this weekend!

LOFT – 50% Off with code ‘FRIENDS’

I’m not sure why it’s taken me this long to get on the LOFT train, but I’m all in. There are so many affordable pieces there that can be perfect for work but that also transition to more casual looks as well. They’re currently doing 50% off everything with the code FRIENDS!

  • Loving this leather jacket
  • Just grabbed this skirt and I know I’ll be repeating it nonstop at the office
  • This top is so gorgeous – I’m loving jewel tones for fall!
  • The sweater vest is KEY to dressing for fall transitional, especially in Texas/the South! I grabbed this one at LOFT and love to throw it over everything

Madewell – Extra 30% off sale with code ‘GOODLOOKS’

These are the days that I wait for; thank you, Madewell. I’ve mentioned that Madewell is my go-to for denim in probably 90% of my blog posts – it’s no joke! I have never found a better, more flattering fit anywhere else. Take this opportunity to score a deal on some denim and get discounts on some of their new fall stuff!

  • I’ve had a similar turtleneck tank sweater by Madewell for 3 years now – they never leave my closet when I purge it because they’ve held up so well and are always a classic piece for my fall/winter wardrobe.
  • This cape scarf is SO CUTE – I think it’s a great layer for fall transitional because it’s lightweight for when it’s a little chilly and you can toss it in your bag when it gets warmer
  • I have two pairs of Madewell booties and boy are they worth it. And you can get this pair for just over $100 – that’s a steal for booties that are real leather with real leather soles. They last forever!
  • Last but definitely not least – snag a pair of jeans – you won’t regret getting on the Madewell denim train

Anthropologie – 25% off everything

I’m normally not an Anthro shopper mainly because of the price point, but I keep seeing people wearing the cutest dresses and sweaters from there! And with 25% off, I’m definitely interested in grabbing a sweater or a go-to fall dress. You can get up to 30% off if you buy 3 sweaters – great time to knock out your sweater shopping for the season.

Have a happy weekend, my loves!

White jeans in fall are a major yes in my book. And to be honest, I hate wearing white jeans in the summer and I really never do! It’s not until the temps drop that I actually want to start wearing them. Weird, I know. But I think it makes sense for Texas girls because sometimes darker wash denim can be pretty hot when the weather isn’t that cold yet.

Some of my friends have texted me asking if it’s “okay” to be wearing white jeans right now and my answer is YES. That’s why I thought I’d throw together 3 easy ways to wear white jeans in fall that I love to style on repeat!

  1. Mix and match your neutrals: Is anyone surprised I’m saying this? Probably not. But when it comes to wearing white jeans in the fall, it’s the perfect opportunity to pair your favorite neutral hues all in one outfit. That’s why I layered this gray vest (similar here) over a tee along with my tan over-the-knee boots. I think the white jeans make a very chic base for this look.
  2. Go monochromatic: Now one of my all-time favorite looks with white jeans is an outfit that mixes different tones of the same color. A cream sweater with white jeans? Literal perfection. If one color is too much for you, break it up with a bold toned boot or a belt!
  3. Take it to the office: Consider swapping out your go-to skirt or trousers with a pair of white jeans. They can pair perfectly with all of your work essentials: crewneck sweaters, blazers, ruffle blouses, etc. I think the second look I styled could be great for the office and it’s so easy to throw on in 5 minutes. I’m in love with these layering tees because you can wear them with literally anything dressy or casual – a perfect wardrobe essential. Pop on a shawl (this one is under $40!) for the office to add interest to your look – you could also go the blanket scarf route as well.

Also, did you miss my IG post yesterday? I partnered up with a bunch of my fave bloggers to share our #falloutfitfaves to give YOU lots of fall outfit inspo. Give it a look here!

Ultimate Guide to Sweater Shopping

Ultimate Guide to Sweater Shopping 150 150 neverwithoutlipstick

Style blogger Ashley Deatherage shares the essential sweaters you need in her sweater shopping guide | Never Without Lipstick | sweaters for fall, sweater outfit, sweaters for women, cardigans, cashmere sweater, sweaters for winter

Here’s something you might not know about me: I regularly purge my closet, usually at the beginning of each season. So not too long ago, I got my closet ready for fall and winter and was left realizing how lacking my closet was on basics. One of the key pieces of every fall/winter wardrobe is the sweater. There are many different styles of sweaters that are key to building the right wardrobe, so that’s why I put together a sweater shopping guide to explain how I got my bases covered.

This sweater shopping guide breaks down all of the styles and materials to look for and add to your wardrobe to be prepared for the season.

Materials:

Wool: Wool is warm, very warm. It’s exactly what you should reach for when true winter temperatures hit. It can be a little bit itchy, so make sure that you feel and try on the sweater in person before you make your decision.

Cashmere: Known for its silky soft texture, cashmere is one of the most luxurious materials you can opt for when it comes to sweaters. But a lot of the time, you’re paying for the brand name when it comes to cashmere. If you see a great sale on Vince, for example, then it might be worth your investment since you know you’re getting a piece that’s well constructed and in a versatile fit. Otherwise, many department stores have their own line of cashmere sweaters or brands like Everlane are making cashmere pieces for extremely affordable prices.

Blends: For my Southern gals, blends are most likely going to be your sweet spot for sweater weather. But they’re also great for those in colder climates as well because they’re a more affordable approach to having warm layering pieces in your closet. A cashmere blend or cotton/wool blend are a great weight

Sweater Shopping Guide – Styles:

Tank Sweater: Like I mentioned in this post, a tank sweater is the perfect layering piece under coats and jackets. It’s also a great way to add in a sweater to your fall transitional wardrobe without feeling like you’re going to burn up in a full on sweater.

Tunic Sweater: Want a sweater that you can make at least 10 different outfits with? Go for the tunic sweater. You can wear a tunic with leggings, jeans, over a dress, with a skirt – seriously, the options are endless. I recently bought a v-neck tunic that I can wear over a white button down to the office or by itself with jeans and booties. But it might be a good idea to consider a turtleneck/cowl neck tunic that can also serve as an off-the-shoulder tunic for an outfit that you could wear out to drinks – pick one that’s really versatile!

Turtleneck Pullover: Your sweater lineup can’t be considered complete without a turtleneck. Whether it’s a mock neck sweater or a turtleneck, it’s going to be a sleek layering piece for your winter wardrobe. You’ll never regret that extra bit of warmth you’ll get from the turtleneck fit!

Fitted Crewneck Pullover: I had to have a fitted sweater included in this sweater shopping guide. Just like my favorite tees, I love to have a more fitted version that I can tuck into pants and jeans. A crewneck is a really versatile neckline, too! Since this sweater style is more fitted you won’t have to worry about stuffing chunky layers into your jackets or coats.

Cardigan: Did your mom always tell you to bring a jacket to the grocery store, the movies, or as you were heading out the door to see friends? Me too. I swear it’s motherhood 101 to always make sure your kid has something warm to wear in case they get cold. I think it’s for this very reason that the cardigan was invented. You can throw it on over anything for added warmth (without having to mess up your hair with a pullover) and it makes any outfit cozier.

V-Neck Pullover: Pullovers account for lots of styles of sweaters; it just depends which neckline you’re looking for like v-neck, crew neck, boat neck, etc. I find that a v-neck pullover is an essential just because you can layer it cover a tee or button down but also wear it by itself easily. A pullover is a great thing to put on when you’re in a rush and don’t want to have to think too much about your outfit.

Cashmere Sweaters: First things first, cashmere sweaters can be expensive. But they’re always going to be worth the investment because they will last in your closet for years. I had a cashmere cardigan from junior year of high school until the end of freshman year of college, not bad.

The good news? There are lots of ways to save when it comes to buying cashmere! I recently got gift cards for my birthday and it usually takes me forever to contemplate what I want to get. Since I knew I needed new basics in my closet, it was easy to make the choice to use my cards towards a cashmere turtleneck and a cashmere pullover. Spending a bit more to invest in these pieces made sense for me because I could use my gift cards and now have pieces that’ll be in my closet for quite some time.

Here are some other ways to save:

  • Shop the department store brand like at Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom (better prices and equivalent quality)
  • Head to stores like Neiman’s Last Call (they have a different sale every day I’m pretty sure) for reduced prices on cashmere pieces by brands like Vince, Joie, or Equipment
  • Check out brands like Everlane or J.Crew that offer really affordable cashmere sweaters

We made it to Day 3 of my fall workwear outfit series! I’ve heard good feedback about these posts, so I’ll definitely get planning more like them for the future. I wanted to make sure that I put together each fall workwear outfit in a way that would make it easy for you to take them from your “desk to drinks” so to say. Your office style should be versatile, comfortable, and allow you to be just as stylish at all of the after-work things that you might do.

This last outfit was actually one of the first that I shot! But since I’m wearing a turtleneck, I thought it would be better to hold off until later into the fall to post it.

I really love the idea of a turtleneck sweater because it just makes so much since for a Texan or a girl in the south. You get the warmth of the turtleneck but can stay cool because it’s sleeveless – genius! I also like to layer these under leather jackets or coats because you don’t have to deal with stuffing chunky sleeves into your coat. Overall, it’s a great go-to sweater for the office because it can be styled casual with jeans or more formal with a skirt and heels.

The skirt I’m wearing is actually an outlet mall find, but this skirt (50% off right now) and this skirt (40% off right now) are awesome similar finds. Even though I gravitate toward jeans or trousers most of the time, I’ve really been into styling skirts for work lately. They’re honestly just as easy to style and they can be a much lighter weight option when it’s a warmer fall day in Texas! I’ll definitely be wearing outfits like this one with over-the-knee boots once the temps start dropping even more this season.

What other workwear posts would y’all like to see? I love to get creative, so send ideas my way!

I also have TONS more fall workwear outfit inspo (and just workwear outfits, in general) over on my Pinterest – take a look here!

Today is Day 2 of my series featuring three fall workwear outfits that will not only give your office style a refresh but you can guarantee that you’ll be comfortable. I really think that these fall workwear ideas can be the perfect look to go from your desk and on to something like drinks or dinner after work.

Never underestimate the power of the blazer. This one (40% off with code YAYCLOTHES right now!) is in such a versatile color and fit that you can pop it on for really any occasion, but it definitely adds a tailored touch to a jeans and tee kind of day at the office. I LOVE these fitted tees from Abercrombie & Fitch (LOL), I’ve bought them in every color because they’re $15 and are the perfect fit and weight for layering and tucking into my fave high-waisted pairs of jeans (this pair is straight up the most flattering pair you’ll ever own…ever).

When it comes to shoes for fall workwear, you have LOTS of options. I went with a classic block heel for this post because I love the height that they give me and they’re super easy to walk in. But this outfit could easily go with a pair of pointy-toe booties or loafers for a flat shoe option.

Don’t miss out on the Ann Taylor sale today! Everything is 50% off (+ FREE SHIPPING) with the code MOVEFAST and it’s for today only.

I’m sharing my favorite fall workwear sale picks below:

I can’t tell you how excited I was when I received a request to share some of my ideas for cute, fall workwear outfits. Ever since starting my job, I’ve had such a fun time thinking of new outfit ideas for the office and I’ve wanted to share them with all of you!

So this week, I’ll be sharing three fall workwear outfit ideas that are perfect for wearing to the office and then off to dinner or drinks after the work day.

This outfit is the epitome of comfort with a chic flare. My trouser leggings are literally pull-on with an elastic waistband (more affordable pair here). Come again? That’s right; you can wear an elastic waistband to the office and ain’t nobody gonna know because you still look classic, tailored, and pulled-together. For a more corporate office environment, pair this ensemble with a nude strappy sandal (I managed to score these Stuart Weitzman sandals at TJ Maxx for $100, so I’m linking a more affordable option here) or a slide-on loafer if you work in a more casual office. And if you haven’t noticed, ruffles are still a huge trend for the fall. Give your go-to white button down a ruffled refresh with this $27 top. I’ve worn it an embarrassing number of times to the office already.

What do you think? Is this a look you’d go for on a day you’re heading somewhere after work like drinks, dinner, or an event? Let me know!
