Top 10 Cruelty Free Highlighters for Everyday Wear

Top 10 Cruelty Free Highlighters for Everyday Wear 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

With warmer temps and more sunshine, it’s time to work on that dewy springtime glow with some cruelty free highlighters! I’ve rounded up my top 10 that deliver the best results when it comes to glow.

As some of you might know, I made the switch to using cruelty-free everything a little over a year ago. It has been one of the best choices I’ve made and has now led me to so many amazing clean beauty products as well! If you’re interested in making the switch to cruelty-free and clean beauty products, read this post on how to start and which products to switch first. It’s helpful to get educated about the harmful chemicals to look out for on labels. Credo has a complete ‘dirty list’ and very detailed explanations of the side effects etc!

These 10 cruelty free highlighters are the best for everyday glow…

Cruelty Free and Vegan Powder Highlighters

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Pressed Highlighter (cruelty-free): The Becca highlighter is a cult-favorite for a reason. The pigment is unbeatable, the color range is huge, and it’ll last you forever. I wear this one in either ‘Champagne Pop’ or ‘Rosy Quartz’ on a daily basis! 90% of the time I reach for a powder highlighter; it’s the best for my combination/oily skin. As my skin gets oily throughout the day, sometimes creamier highlighters have transferred down my face a bit. You don’t have to worry about that with powder! These also come in mini size which are perfect for travel.

Pixi by Petra Glow-Y Duo (cruelty-free): Definitely turn to this brand for affordable but high-performing products. This highlighter duo is well formulated to bring a depth of glow to your look. Since there are two colors, you can wear each by itself or together for more depth to your highlight. I love how delicately this one wears!

Urban Decay Backtalk Palette (cruelty-free): I was thrilled when Urban Decay gifted me this gorgeous palette (thank you!). It seriously has everything you need all in one place. You can go from light feminine looks to smokier more romantic vibes. BUT an added bonus of this palette is the light pink shimmery highlighter it includes! The soft pink undertones of the highlighter complement any rosy or pink blush and add dimension to your look. I also think pink highlighter hues are a great place to start just since they tend toward the more natural glow realm!

Hourglass Strobe Lighting Powder (vegan & cruelty-free): Hourglass cosmetics are high-quality all around. Their highlighters are no exception! These highlighter powders are specially formulated to catch the light and give you an easy, effortless glow-from-within look. Since the product is aiming for a more naturally glowing look, these do go on a bit lighter/are a bit more sheer than other powders.

(P.S. I also highly recommend their bronzer for exceptional blendability and natural shades that don’t give harsh contour lines. I also have been using their stick foundation for over a year now and will never ever go back to liquid. If you’re in the market for a new foundation, I highly, highly recommend it!)

Liquid and Cream Highlighters

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Highlighter Wand (cruelty-free): This highlighter really delivers when it comes to glow. It’s a must-buy when it comes to cruelty free highlighters! It’ll look like you just got your makeup professionally done. Whenever my friend wears this one, she always gets so many compliments! You can just dab this one on your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, cupid’s bow etc. to get the desired glow. I’d start out with a little and then add if you want more shimmer. If I really want to be a dewy goddess, I put this one on and then the Becca powder over it to set it.

rms beauty Luminizer (clean & cruelty-free): This would be your go-to for a very natural glow. Are you the type of girl that just wears a bit of foundation or concealer? Add this into your routine. I have the satin-pearl shade and anytime I wear it I love how it appears like I’m glowing from within. It is coconut oil based, so I would apply it sparingly if you have more oily skin! Because of my oilier skin, I can’t live without powder over my foundation. This one doesn’t layer over powder well so I apply it after my foundation and then take a beautyblender to apply my powder just in my T-zone!

Rituel de Fille Rare Light Luminzer (clean & cruelty-free): This product is so gorgeous on and the packaging/branding is so luxe! I have it in the ‘Anthelion’ shade and it’s like I’m adding 24K gold flakes onto my skin. The pigment is so rich and really delivers. This would be another great addition for any of you makeup minimalists. My same application tips from above apply here too if your skin tends toward the oily combo side!

Hourglass Highlighting Stick (vegan & cruelty-free): If you’re wanting to try out highlighter in your routine, this highlighter stick would be a good place to start. It adds a sheer but natural glow. Once you’re ready to amp it up a bit, layer an Hourglass highlighter powder over it for more of a statement.

Glossier Haloscope (vegan, clean & cruelty-free): Another affordable ($22) option for those new to wearing highlighter or minimal makeup people. I love its size because it’s easy to travel with or throw in your makeup bag to add glow on the go!

Juice Beauty Illuminating Primer (clean & cruelty-free): Now here is a different route to highlight altogether! If you’re looking to get a lit-from-within, more subtle glow, then this would be your product of choice. I recommend starting out by using this product sparingly as a primer or just on the high points of your face under your foundation. I went a little too heavy the first time I used it, and my face ended up looking too shiny all over! You can also easily mix a drop or two of this into your regular primer or liquid foundation for an added glowy touch.

I hope you’re ready to get glowing with these cruelty free highlighters! I’ve loved adding in a bit of shimmer to my everyday makeup routine, and I think you will, too. You can see more of my must-have clean and cruelty-free makeup and skincare products here!

The Ultimate Starter Pack for Clean Beauty Products

The Ultimate Starter Pack for Clean Beauty Products 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

This post on clean beauty products and where to start when making the switch has been much requested by many of you on Insta and my closest gal pals! When I decided to only use cruelty-free makeup, I started discovering more about all of the harsh, toxic chemicals that go into our everyday beauty products. That’s why I’m writing today’s post to share 10 products to include in your clean beauty “starter pack” so to say 🙂

10 CLEAN BEAUTY PRODUCTS TO GET STARTED:

clean beauty products, clean beauty makeup, clean beauty products skin care, clean beauty tips | Clean beauty products starter pack featured by top Dallas beauty blog, Never Without Lipstick

  1. Native Deodorant: This may be one of the hardest clean beauty products to start using. Trust. Me. I had to try three different brands before I found THE one. I even went back to normal deodorant for a bit and it didn’t work, ha. Standard deodorants contain aluminum (a carcinogen), so you should really try to make the switch to clean beauty starting here. I LOVE Native Deodorant because it actually works. It’s the only one that actually, truly blocks the stink. You can even get it at Target now!
  2. Acure Shampoo and Conditioner: I’d always known that typical drugstore shampoos/conditioners weren’t good for me or my hair. Now that I’ve made the switch to Acure products, I’ve been pleasantly surprised! My hair feels softer and so much healthier now that I’m using these. This is another one you can get at Target 🙂
  3. Tom’s Toothpaste: Isn’t it shocking that toothpaste can have toxic ingredients and that it gets tested on animals?! This really blew my mind. This is a great replacement option!
  4. 100% Hyaluronic Acid Serum
  5. Vitamin C Plus E Ferulic Acid Serum
  6. Glycolic & Salicylic Acid Face Wash: This is an amazing everyday face wash for morning or night!
  7. BHA Toner: I use this every morning to keep my skin cells turning over regularly to brighten my skin and lift any acne staining!
  8. Bite Beauty Lipstick: Bite Beauty products are paraben, phthalate, and sulfate free. I made a custom lipstick at the Bite Beauty Lab in San Francisco and I love the amuse bouche formula. This line has so many different colors and tons of different formulas to choose from!
  9. Indie Lee Brightening Makeup Remover Cleansing Wash: As sad as it is to hear, makeup wipes can be very toxic and are, not to mention, bad for the environment. That’s why I love this face wash! It lathers really well and actually takes off every lick of your makeup. I usually do this and then wash with a BHA face wash afterward to double cleanse.
  10. Ellis Brooklyn Perfume: Fragrance is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to high toxicity and negative side effects like infertility. Fragrance can be synthetic and present in different products in varying amounts since it’s not regulated. So you don’t really know how many toxins you’re being exposed to! It’s oftentimes used to mask the smells of the other toxic chemicals in products – yikes. So this means that so many of our perfumes are loaded with toxins – ah! That’s why I love this line of perfumes! Once I’ve run out of my other perfume, I’m going to get this in the Fawn scent.

Resources to Get Informed About Clean Beauty Products:

I know all of this info can be a lot, but don’t let it overwhelm you! One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to start just by getting informed.

  • Think Dirty: One of my close friends told me about this phone app and I’m AMAZED. You can type in literally any product and it’ll score its “dirtiness” on a scale of 1-10 based on its ingredients. This can make shopping and scanning your current products much easier
  • Fashion Veggie: Molly is a Dallas-based vegan lifestyle and fashion blogger. I decided to go completely cruelty-free after watching her stories when Nars decided to start selling their products in mainland China. Side note: If a brand or line sells their products in mainland China (& other parts of Asia), then that brand is required by law to test on animals. Molly is just a great resource for vegan, cruelty-free, and clean beauty products and brands!
  • Clean Beauty Cheat Sheet: Biossance made an amazing cheat sheet that you can download or screenshot to have on your phone. It breaks down each of the toxic ingredients to look out for and what the side effects are of each one.

Next steps: Read some articles and start scanning the labels of the products you currently use. Wait until you’ve used up your shampoo or your toothpaste and then opt to replace it with clean beauty products next time!

Please feel free to DM me or email me with any questions at all about clean beauty products or cruelty-free beauty!

My 5 Favorite Cruelty Free Lipstick Brands

My 5 Favorite Cruelty Free Lipstick Brands 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

In July of last year, I finally made the decision to go completely cruelty free. This meant with my makeup, skincare, and even household products. I’ve learned so much over the past months about cruelty free brands I love as well as new ones to try. And bet your bottom dollar I’ve done my fair share of research on cruelty free lipstick brands. As a (self-proclaimed) lipstick connoisseur, I tested each of these cruelty free lipstick brands to make sure they met my standards. That meant each one has a formula I trust, applies easily, and has strong staying power!

Glo Skin Beauty:

Does anyone else’s mom fuel their lipstick obsession? My mom is always seeing and recommending new lip colors for me to try and I LOVE it. That’s exactly how I found out about Glo Skin Beauty. My mom found the perfect bright magenta lip crayon at this amazing beauty supply store in Austin. It was a fast fave first for the color and then for the formula! The crayon applies so precisely and the color is perfectly matte. The pigment lasts longer than most liquid lipsticks I’ve tried without drying your lips! I’ve since added many more colors to my collection. Glo is one of the cruelty free lipstick brands that really delivers on quality while being extremely affordable at the same time.

Favorite shades:

Charlotte Tilbury:

Maybe it’s the rose gold packaging or Charlotte’s love for the luxe life, but I am obsessed either way. Her products deliver on all fronts: pigment, quality, effectiveness. Her lipsticks are no exception. I have found that the pigments are rich and very unique. They apply creamy, so they keep your lips feeling moisturized. The color does last for about 2-3 hours before I need to reapply!

Favorite shades:

Stila: The brand itself is cruelty free but their parent company is not.

Initially liquid lipsticks can be intimidating, but they’re actually great to add to your makeup bag. It’s nice to not have to think about reapplying your lip color! Getting the formula right for a liquid lipstick isn’t easy, but Stila has done a great job with theirs. The applicator allows you to apply the color precisely and my lips don’t get dry and creased as the day goes on. Try the two shades I mention below; you can’t go wrong with either!

Favorite Shades:

  • Beso (coral take on traditional red)
  • Baci (matte nude pink)

Urban Decay: The brand itself is cruelty free but their parent company is not.

There’s just something magical about an amazing lipstick formula for under $20 ($17 to be exact). This collection of lipsticks can be overwhelming because I think there are over 100 color options. I recommend watching YouTubers swatch their favorite shades or googling the swatches to see color info. I got the shade ‘Naked’ from a beauty blogger’s rec and have loved it. This color is one of the creamier formulas. I prefer matte formulas for longer lasting color and creamy formulas when my lips feel dry. This creamy formula delivers strong pigment without it feeling or looking too sheer or too mushy on your lips.

Favorite Shade:

Axiology Lipstick:

This is one of my new favorite cruelty free lipstick brands! Their lipsticks are 100% vegan and natural meaning no unhealthy or toxic ingredients. I love that this is one of the cruelty-free lipstick brands that I can wear with confidence knowing that it’s 100% safe. The pigment on the lipsticks I received is creamy and more on the sheer side. This is a good way for me to break up my use of super matte lipsticks! The formula is very moisturizing, and I just love that it’s healthy on my lips.

Favorite Shade:

  • I received Bliss, Vibration, and Noble courtesy of Axiology. They are perfect peachy/coral hues for the spring season and I can’t wait to wear them nonstop!

Style blogger Ashley of Never Without Lipstick recommends products for a matte skincare and makeup routine | matte skin, matte skincare, matte skin how to get, matte makeup, matte makeup for oily skin, matte makeup tutorial, matte foundation, easy makeup routine, skincare routine, beginner skincare routine

Last week on my Insta Stories, I shared a few products that I’ve been using to keep my skin and makeup matte and oil-free. I wanted to put together a more detailed post about my matte skincare and makeup routine so that it had a place to live on the blog in case some might want to reference it in the future! My skin has been so oily lately and by the end of the day, my makeup looks like it has almost melted off my face. It’s such a frustrating experience, but I’ve read as many articles as I can for tips and tricks and tried out quite a few new products that have started to make a difference. That’s why I wanted to share my current matte skincare and makeup routine for those of you who might be struggling with this same thing!

MATTE SKINCARE:

  1. Wash with cleansing oil: This may seem counter-intuitive but cleansing oil clings to fat (aka excess oil) on your face, pulls it off your skin, and washes it away. I use this instead of a regular facial cleanser most of the time.
  2. AHA/BHA toner or Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel: For those of you with oily skin, don’t tone everyday; do it every other day. Toners can be drying on the skin which leads to more oil production, especially with toners that have alcohol in them. The AHA/BHA toner helps to soak up oil and can penetrate beyond just the surface level of your skin.
  3. Apply serum with (optional) powder booster: I like to change up which serum I’m using based on what I’m trying to treat that day with my skin. (I wrote about 3 serums that I love here in case you missed it.) After reading this article, I decided to give this True Botanicals antioxidant booster a try. The powder texture of the booster is oil absorbent and the antioxidants repair my skin – just add two shakes to your favorite serum, blend, and apply!
  4. Moisturizer and eye cream: Something I used to misunderstand about my oily skin was that I didn’t need moisturizer because my skin was producing so much oil. Wrong. This only dehydrated my skin and caused MORE oil – great. I always make sure to include moisturization in my matte skincare routine morning and night to lock in my skin’s moisture and prevent it from overproducing. My undereye concealer seems to go on better when I’ve applied eye cream!
  5. Sunscreen: Sunscreen contains zinc and titanium which are great oil-absorbing ingredients to keep your skin matte.

Now onto the second part of my matte skincare and makeup routine…

MATTE MAKEUP:

  1. Primer on your T-zone: Sometimes I feel like primers clog up my skin, so I don’t like to apply it all over. Apply it in the most oily parts of your face – mine is my t-zone! I haven’t quite found a primer that I love and trust – but I will keep you updated or please send suggestions!
  2. Apply foundation: Liquid foundation just wasn’t doing the trick for me and always felt too greasy no matter what formula I used. Things have really changed for the better with this stick foundation (I wear the shade ‘vanilla’, and I have fair skin with olive undertones!).
  3. Apply concealer
  4. Apply loose mineral powder
  5. Apply contour
  6. Set t-zone with white setting powder: This is my modified version of ‘baking’! I put quite a bit of setting powder and cake it onto my skin, undereyes, around my nose, and my forehead. I apply it with a damp beauty blender and let it sit for about 5-8 minutes. This works to really set my makeup in place and give me that matte makeup finish.
  7. Brush off excess setting powder and apply blush
  8. Apply highlight (optional): This step is totally up to you! Some of you may be averse to adding more shine to oil-prone skin or some of you may want to add in some dewy/glowy touches. I love this highlighter because I just dab it along my cheekbone for a slight glow!
  9. Set with sunscreen setting powder on chin, under nose, and between brows: I know this may seem intense. But I’m not kidding when I say that I’ll notice that all-too-familiar sheen of oil around my nose and on my chin within a few hours of applying my makeup if I don’t go through the right process. This final setting powder is another way to get oil-absorbing ingredients on my face.

So there you have it: my current matte skincare and makeup routine. I will continue to test products and new methods and share them with you if I find any new discoveries. Do you struggle with oily skin as well? If there are products you’ve tried that have really helped you, please let me know via Insta DM or comment below!

Lifestyle blogger Ashley Deatherage of Never Without Lipstick shares the trending fall lipstick colors

Fall Lipstick Trends

Fall Lipstick Trends 838 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

The word ‘lipstick’ wouldn’t be part of my blog name if I weren’t truly a lover and hoarder of lipstick. When I was 10, my mom had to scold me for how many lipsticks I’d bring on vacation (plus or minus 8). If it isn’t obvious today, I haven’t changed my ways when it comes to lipstick – I still want all the colors. And right now, I particularly want ALL the fall lipstick colors (it’s my favorite season so naturally they’re my favorite lip hues to look out for).

Lifestyle blogger Ashley Deatherage of Never Without Lipstick shares the trending fall lipstick colors

You’re going to want to pucker up for these trendy updates for your pout:

  • Grape/Berry Purples: With these hues, imagine you’ve just bitten into a handful of juicy blueberries or a ripe plum (you know, as one does). Go for true grape hues or deep purple shades; think of very vampy purples. These colors have been all over the runways, and I love how this dark plum looks on Lucy Hale here. I picked up a shade (in Temptress) similar to hers and made sure to grab a lighter gloss (in Berry Strudel) to lessen the intensity of the color so that I can wear it during the day. Definitely get a liner with this shade to really define your lip shape. I also LOVE to mix a vampy purple and a deep burgundy (in She Devil) to get a reddish plum hue – it’s a killer shade for the fall!
  • Glossy: Goodbye to the days of matte lips – it’s time for high gloss, baby. Remember the days when you couldn’t wait to graduate from Lipsmackers clear gloss to the big girl Dr.Pepper red? Funny how fashion works because it’s all about that lacquer this season. Layer on clear gloss on top of any of your go-to shades or over a cherry red for some high shine lips!
  • Red: On the topic of red…it’s not only trending for your wardrobe but also your lips. Of course burgundy and bordeaux reds are still hot topics, but this season it’s about cherry and candy apple reds. I recently got this Hourglass lipstick in ‘Secretly’ and I’m obsessed. It’s the perfect cruelty-free replacement for my former go-to Chanel liquid lip! I’m convinced that a red lip can seriously dress up any outfit and make you feel like a bombshell all day long.
  • Soft and shimmery: Pale, shimmery pinks are giving me slight Britney Spears vibes, but it has looked so subtle and chic on the NYFW models. Give your go-to neutral a baby pink update with a shade like this one in ‘Creator’ – maybe even add a shimmer gloss over it?

Nordstrom Sale Beauty Favorites 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

Style and beauty blogger Ashley Deatherage of Never Without Lipstick shares her favorite Nordstrom Sale beauty picks

For a girl that’s still new (read: lazy) when it comes to skincare (not makeup, I’ve got makeup on lock), the skincare department of the Nordstrom Sale was initially intimidating. So I started out by doing research and reading tons of other bloggers’ posts about their skincare and beauty finds. I tried my hardest to seek out information from others that face similar skin issues and needs as me. This helped me to narrow down a bit which products I needed to look into and that led me to better understand which products would be a better deal at the sale prices. All in all, for skincare newbies or if you’re reading about new products, it’s key to read customer reviews (which are plentiful on Nordstrom, bless) and look to the opinions of those you trust.

My skin type is combination but it definitely leans to the oily side due to dryness (complicated I know). I also struggle with cystic acne. So I was definitely considering products that would help me address these issues. After reading this blog post, I’ve been trying to take a more gentle approach with my skin especially at night. I think that the more I bug it the more it acts out and breaks out. Because of that I’m trying to use very gentle products with very natural, non-irritating ingredients.

As far as makeup and beauty products go, I really wanted to stick to the brands that I know and love. Sometimes during sales like these, brands will make sets that just aren’t as high quality as their full price items. This is definitely not the case for every beauty brand but it is bound to happen. There was also another layer of criteria that my beauty purchases had to pass this year during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale – NO animal testing. That’s why I was drawn to buy items from Hourglass Cosmetics and one of my all-time favorites, Charlotte Tilbury. Please note that all products mentioned in this post are not cruelty free as I am still in the process of overhauling my beauty and skincare arsenal to include all cruelty free brands and products.

Keep reading to find out which products were worth the purchase for me during the sale and why!

SPACENK.apothecary “THE BEST OF COLLECTION” SET (c/o)

When SPACE.NK.apothecary reached out to me about the “Best of Collection” set they’re offering in the Nordstrom Sale, I sighed a breath of relief. It was like someone had done all the work for me. I was giddy when the package arrived with my set!

This set includes six best-selling products from this leading UK-based luxury skincare and beauty mecca. I had been hearing so many incredible things about this brand and was just generally obsessed with its branding and curation of products. Luxurious is what comes to mind when I think about SPACE.NK, but it’s also incredibly approachable for those looking to budget on skincare or those who are very new to skincare like me.

I especially loved that this set mixed makeup and skincare (and hair!) together, so that I could get to try items that met all of my interests. Let me break down the set for you and tell you why I’m so obsessed.

  1. By Terry Baume de Rose Lip Care: I don’t know what it is but I can’t go to bed without my hair completely brushed/tangle-free or without lip balm of some sort on my lips. (It’s a habit and I get all nervous if I don’t do it – what’s your bedtime must-do? I wanna know!) One of my favorite bloggers had raved about this lip balm for so long and I was so skeptical that it could do more than good ole Aquaphor or CarMex. But I was wrong. I have woken up with plumper, more moisturized lips lately because of this balm. If I can get Kylie lips because of this lip balm, I’m so in.
  2. Lipstick Queen ‘Frog Prince’: OKAY, this stuff is incredible. And that’s coming from me, the real lipstick queen 😉 Don’t be alarmed when you see that this lipstick is green. This lipstick will adapt to and enhance your natural lip color so that you are automatically wearing your ideal “my lips but better” shade. And you didn’t even have to try all the other lipstick princes. The name totally makes sense now.
  3. Sunday Riley Good Genes Treatment: Lately, I’ve been trying microneedling to enhance collagen production in my face and increase widespread healing to clear up breakouts; the teeny tiny needles “injure” your face to induce the skin’s natural healing and recovery process. Microneedling also helps your skincare products to penetrate MUCH deeper into your skin for enhanced results. I’ll probably do a post on my experience once I’ve been using it a bit longer. But I applied this serum after microneedling my face for a couple nights, and I noticed my face looking much plumper and smoother across the surface.
  4. Oribe Texturizing Spray: This hairspray is like the pumpkin spice latte of the hair world – everybody wants it. If you’ve ever had trouble with your hair dropping its curl practically minutes after you’ve curled it, then this is the spray you want to look into. Texturizing spray gives your hair the grit, if you will, to hold onto a curl or styling better than it would on its own. Even though my hair is about medium thickness, it still feels very fine which makes my curls loosen pretty quickly, so I’ve been reaching for this spray lately to give my hair the extra texture it needs to really hold onto my curls. Spray it in your hair before or after styling it and scrunch it in a little bit to really get it into your locks. Not to mention it also smells BEYOND amazing.
  5. Kevyn Aucoin The Volume Mascara: I remember my mom saying she’d “belabor every lash” when she’d wear mascara in high school, and I seriously feel this way every time I apply mascara. Read that as I expect a lot out of my mascara. I need it to both lengthen and add thickness to my lashes. And now that I use Neulash to grow my lashes, there are a lot of layers of lashes that get crowded and wonky when I try to apply mascara. This Kevyn Aucoin mascara has a long thin brush which really gives me the ability to wiggle and comb it through my lashes to separate and lengthen each one to get the lashes I’m looking for.
  6. Eve Lom Cleanser: Have you heard about ‘double cleansing’? It’s all about going the extra mile to really rid your skin of all traces of makeup before washing your face and going to bed. Wipe away your makeup with a makeup wipe or micellar water first. Then use a makeup removing cleanser like this Eve Lom one to get that extra layer of makeup grime that could be the cause of your skin’s unhappiness and irritation. This cleanser smells so good and natural and I love that it’s the tiniest bit gritty. That slight exfoliation convinces me that it’s doing its job in scrubbing away any extra makeup. After applying this cleanser in circular motions around your face and on your eyes to remove leftover eye makeup, heat up the precious muslin cloth that it comes with and place it on your face to open your pores and loosen any toxins in your pores. Rub the cloth in circular motions to gently exfoliate and then you’re done double cleansing and can wash your face!

This set is worth $237 and is currently available during the Nordstrom Sale for so much less. It’s seriously one of the best deals you could snag from this sale given the amount of full-size products you receive in the set!

CHARLOTTE TILBURY ‘HOT LIPS’ LIPSTICK SET

Charlotte Tilbury is the creator of one of my all-time favorite nude lipsticks (read about it here): Penelope Pink. I ADORE this color, this formula…I could gush on and on. Because I know and trust the quality of her lipsticks and liners, I knew that I could trust the quality to be the same in this lipstick set. I went with the ‘Perfect Pink’ set of lipsticks because I wanted pinkier shades since I already had a nude lip I loved from Charlotte Tilbury. These lipsticks apply like butter; they’re so smooth but not too creamy that your lips look messy with too much sheen. You will have to reapply this lipstick but I’ve had the color last for at least a couple of hours before it was time for another hit.

HOURGLASS COSMETICS AMBIENT DIFFUSED LIGHT PALETTE

Hourglass has been on my radar for quite some time after I saw another blogger gal wearing the most gorgeous blush by them. It runs on the pricier end, so I had been reluctant to try their products. But when I read about their opposition to animal testing and the ingredients in their products, I knew that it was time to give it a try. I’d been in the market for a new foundation for quite some time and I decided to make the leap into trying their stick foundation (I’m in shade Vanilla and my skin tone is fair with olive undertones). I am CHANGED. It applies so smoothly, the coverage is buildable, and the match to my skin is flawless. With my previous foundation, I was always noticing a line on my jawline that drove me insane. If you’re wanting to try a new foundation, head to the Hourglass counter immediately.

So now that you now about my entree to Hourglass, it’s time to talk about this palette I snagged from the Nordstrom Sale. When I get on a YouTube makeup tutorial binge (just now on the Jaclyn Hill train), I’m immediately dying to start highlighting and contouring. But I like to keep things simple and easy so that I can wear it everyday if I want to. That’s why I love this palette. The bronzer gives the most subtle sculpting to your features without leaving you orange. It blends really beautifully too so that you aren’t left with any harsh lines which is common for me since I’m a newbie to contouring. I’m also always on the hunt for a blush that gives me that flushed rosy look – this blush does just that and the light reflecting particles in the powder also give a slightly dewy look which enhances your highlight. Last but not least, the setting powder in this palette gives you a light dewy glimmer and can also serve as a subtle highlight. This palette is definitely for those of you wanting to go for the subtle and dewy approach to contour/highlight!

What would spring and summer be without nude lipsticks?!

With all of the pastels and cream colors, it’s always a welcome change to throw in a neutral lip. Obviously I’m a lipstick addict, so I’m always trying new colors and formulas to see what’s new out there and find new obsessions! After many trials and tests, these 5 nude lipsticks have stolen my heart and have become regulars in my lipstick wardrobe. Not to mention that they’re all under $35!

My Top 5 Nude Lipsticks

1. Stila Liquid Lipstick in ‘Baci’

Blaire Eadie of Atlantic Pacific, a huge inspiration for me, wears this color nonstop so I think that makes me love it even more. This formula is long lasting which is essential for me because I hate reapplying! The color has some purple undertones that make it more of a robust, cooler nude on the lips. I love this nude lipstick because it’s a neutral but it’s a bit edgier!

2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick in ‘Pure Hollywood’

Not only do I love the name of this nude lipstick, but I also love the color! If you’re looking for a warmer nude lipstick that is longlasting, then this is your pick. I grab for this color when I’m wanting a nude that brings out any peachy or orangey tones in my lips.

3. Kylie Lip Kit in ‘Koko K’

Yes, I did spend hard earned money on a Kylie lip kit, #noshame. I really do have to say that the formula applies easily and smoothly and it’s about the middle of the road on how long it lasts.

4. Charlotte Tilbury K.i.s.s.i.n.g. Lipstick in ‘Penelope Pink’

This lipstick has to be my FAVE nude. I wore it to my brother’s wedding when I was a bridesmaid last summer, and I have worn it over and over again ever since. The application is creamy but the finish is matte and longlasting. This color is more of a traditional nude in that it is beigey/tan in nature but with the best touch of pink to bring a rosy tint to your lips. This one is a must-buy!!

5. Too Face Melted Long Wear Lipstick in ‘Sugar’

I LOVE putting on this nude lipstick because the applicator is basically an angled little sponge that doesn’t let you apply too much product and I can shape my lips so easily! There’s a lot of be said for good applicators. This color is the most traditional nude that I wear in that it’s chalkier, opaque, and has tan tones to it. Each color can be different on each set of lips, but regardless, the undertone color of your lips will warm this color if you’re worried about it being too intense.

My Longwear Foundation Routine

My Longwear Foundation Routine 1024 1024 neverwithoutlipstick

Apply foundation to last all day/Never Without Lipstick/beauty routine, makeup hack, foundation tips, makeup tutorial, longwear foundation

If you need to have foundation that lasts all day, then this post should be of help to you! I hate when it’s 5 PM and I look in a mirror in my car and see makeup fading in one spot or crazy oil accumulation on my chin (always oil on the chin, someone help :P). This led me to lock down a routine and an arsenal of products that I can count on to hold up my foundation all day long.

Apply foundation to last all day/Never Without Lipstick/beauty routine, makeup hack, foundation tips, makeup tutorial, longwear foundation

  1. Mattifying Primer: First, I apply OC8 primer. My facialist here in Austin used to do makeup on movies and TV sets in California, and she recommended this primer to me about 2 years ago because she said she would apply it to actors’ faces to prevent oil breakouts on set. Its matte coverage is supposed to last for up to 8 hours, and I believe it! Make sure to apply it and give it 5 mins to set to get the best results.
  2. Setting Powder: I used to apply setting powder after I’d applied my foundation or concealer, but in order to really combat my oily skin, I started applying it to technically set my primer. I LOVE this Charlotte Tilbury setting powder because you can apply makeup over it and you’re able to blend over it as well. This is NOT the case with other setting powders, especially the MAC one – I hated that setting powder because it made everything look streaky or splotchy once makeup was applied over it!
  3. Matte Foundation: Once you’ve primed and set your primer, it’s time for your foundation. I cannot get over this No 7 Beautiful Matte Foundation (I wear it in ‘cool vanilla’) – it’s incredible! I love the coverage, the weight, and the shade of it. I feel like the shades are really true to skin tones, and it seriously covers up your pores. My best friend ended up buying this foundation and she adores it, too! Not to mention you can buy it at Target and it’s under $20. No complaints here!
  4. Conceal + Highlight: I’ve raved about my Nars concealers before, and I’ll do it again if you’re new around here. I use the concealer in ‘Vanilla’ to cover blemishes and redness and use ‘Chantilly’ to highlight. I refuse to use any other concealer because I’m convinced that these are the end-all, be-all. They cover blemishes impeccably and are so perfectly creamy and easy to blend. I recommend blending with a beautyBlender (another one of my makeup tools I can’t go without!).
  5. Powder: Recommending to use powder can sometimes be controversial because some people hate it and some love it! I personally love it and have been using it since 6th grade. I find that the Clinique Powder Foundation + Concealer (my shade is ‘Alabaster’) sets my makeup and fills in any gaps that foundation or concealer didn’t get.
  6. Setting powder, again: Once you’ve finished your foundation and concealer, dip a kabuki brush or fluffy blending brush back into your setting powder and apply the brush in circles on your face. This not only sets your foundation but also blends everything out for you to keep things smooth and prevent lines. I also like to dip a damp beautyBlender into Laura Mercier under-eye brightening powder to set my under-eye highlight!

How To Do a Wing-Tip Eyeliner

How To Do a Wing-Tip Eyeliner 1024 683 neverwithoutlipstick

I am so excited to be sharing this tutorial with y’all today! Doing a cat-eye is a major part of my everyday makeup look and can really make it look like you put effort into your look when you really didn’t. I don’t think I’d be able to do a wing-tip without a pen, but I know that other gals love to use liners that are more like a paint brush. It really comes down to what you think would be easiest for you to use. I just love the pen because I feel like I have the most control with it! I can’t be without my Milani pen to draw the line and my Stila pen to fill in for darker, waterproof color.

Keep reading for my steps to a cat-eye below!

Cat Eye Eyeliner Tutorial/How to Apply Liquid Eyeliner/Never WIthout Lipstick/eyeliner tutorial, liquid eyeliner, makeup tutorial, makeup hack, beauty hack

1. Line up the tip of the eyeliner pen with the corner of your eye and angle the tip of the pen a bit upward from there to set up the line of motion to make the dramatic “wing”. This is the step where you can determine how far out you would like your wing to go.

2. Once you’ve set the tip of the pen where you want the “wing” to start, press down lightly and drag the pen downward and about a fourth of the way into your lash line.

3. After securing the wing, continue to drag the pen lightly across the rest of your lash line. I usually dab the pen on its side to get a straighter line.

4. Once you have your cat-eye done, go through with the pen and fill in any gaps, straighten out the line, or make it thicker if you would like. To make a thicker wing, press down the tip and side of the pen when drawing the wing at the beginning. As you pull down, the side of the pen will make a thicker wing on your outer corner.

Fresh Spring Makeup/Never Without Lipstick

Now that it’s a new season, I’ve been adding in some new lipstick, blush, eyeshadow, etc. to freshen up my spring makeup. I’m sharing the items that I’ve been using lately for a very light and fresh everyday look that’s perfect for the season!

1. Peachy Lipsticks or Lipglosses

No.7 High Shine Lipgloss: First things first, I LOVE this makeup and skincare line. And to make things even better, you can buy all their products at Target! Everything they make is so high quality while being very reasonably priced; I can’t get over the Beautifully Matte foundation (I wear the Cool Vanilla shade, for reference). But back to lipgloss! I picked up this lipgloss in ‘Just Peachy’ to give it a try, and I immediately loved it. I so rarely wear lipgloss but it just seems so perfect for a lightweight, springy look! This pigment is perfectly peachy with a light hint of coral, so it gives your lips the glossy color they need!

Mac Coral Lipstick in ‘Ravishing’: I went into Nordstrom thinking I wanted a more orangey coral lipstick, but after trying it on, I knew it wasn’t the right shade for me. Then when I tried on ‘Ravishing’ I was sold. It’s so lightly peachy too (and pairs just perfectly with the No.7 lipgloss, by the way) and could definitely be your go-to spring neutral. The formula on this lippie is also a bit creamy which makes for a much more hydrated look.

2. Pearlescent Highlighters

Now that it’s officially springtime, those cheekbones need some highlight! Go for a subtle, pearly color on your cheekbones and you can also add it to your cupid’s bow and nose if you’re feeling brave. Apply with a fan brush to get a light shimmer! I keep going back to my BECCA pressed highlighter in ‘Moonstone’.

3. Creamy Copper Eyeshadows

One of my all-time favorite shadows to get a nice warm shade in my crease is ‘Creme Brulee’ by Makeup Geek (it’s $6)! Add this into your crease with a fluffy crease brush and finish off the look by dabbing this shimmery, creamy L’Oreal infallible shadow in Amber Rush all over your lid. This will give you a very warm look for your eyes that pairs well with the highlighter!

4. Light Pink Cheeks

If you read my post on beauty buys under $15, I shared that the Milani ‘Luminoso’ blush just wasn’t a hit with me. But I read about the ‘Dolce Pink’ color on Katey McFarlan’s blog and had to try it right away. Things went much better with this shade! It’s lightly shimmery and adds the perfect amount of rosy flush to your cheeks.
