This lifestyle podcasts post was originally published in January 2018 and updated in July 2019

For the longest time, I never really understood why lifestyle podcasts were a “thing.” I maybe listened to an episode of Brandi Glanville’s podcast (fellow RHOBH fans, I see you cringing) way back when. I even deleted the Podcasts app on my phone because I “didn’t need it.” Let’s just say I’ve had a podcast glow up and have the best lifestyle podcasts for your morning commute.

Now I LIVE for podcasts and am recommending them left and right! I feel like I’ve found some of the best lifestyle podcasts that might be just right for your morning commute. Or really just time spent in the car when you’re not feeling your playlist. I’m convinced that lifestyle podcasts were made for your drive to work. They can have a big impact on your mindset for the day. Whether I need a good laugh or inspiring business tips for my blog, there’s a podcast for it. It’s like I’m having a good heart-to-heart with my besties in my car. That’s why I wanted to share the best podcasts particularly for your morning commute!

BEST LIFESTYLE PODCASTS FOR YOUR MORNING COMMUTE

LIFESTYLE PODCASTS – POP CULTURE & LIFESTYLE:

Bitch Sesh:This podcast makes me (legitimately) laugh out loud. People next to me at stoplights probably think I’m clinical. Bitch Sesh is the podcast for all lovers of the Real Housewives franchise. Or Bravo in general, honestly. The hosts are outrageously funny and analyze every detail from each Real Housewives episode in the most hilarious way. You could listen to this even if you don’t watch the shows; it’s just that funny. Definitely a great listen for starting off your day with some laughs!

Two Judgey Girls: This is another winner when it comes to Bravo and Real Housewives recaps and breakdowns. It’s so funny and I love the dynamic between the hosts!

Absolutely Not: This is a new one on the list, but you better believe it’ll be permanently in my rotation. The host is Heather McMahan, my FAVORITE comedian – a must follow on Instagram! Watching her stories is the highlight of my day, and when she has a new podcast episode out, then my day couldn’t get any better at that point. This podcast has me belly laughing in my car – no better way to start off a day than with that!

The Skinny Confidential: Him & Her: It was hard to think of a category for this podcast because it offers SO many different things. They interview experts from so many different industries and walks of life. Actors, dieticians, entrepreneurs, doctors – you name it! This podcast delivers so much value because of all of the tips and tricks you get. I’ve learned many things from many episodes and I love the dynamic between Michael and Lauryn, the husband-and-wife duo as hosts! You will be learning and laughing every time you listen.

Be There in 5: Kate Kennedy, the host of this show, is known for her “deep dive” episodes. She also interviews really good guests, but I love to listen to the deep dives particularly! They are long but they are informative; I understand so much more after listening to them about different topics. Most recently, I listened to an episode about Taylor Swift’s public post about Scooter Braun; I learned so much and was getting enraged at how Taylor had been treated and just the dark side of that industry. A must-listen for sure!

LIFESTYLE PODCASTS – DATING & RELATIONSHIPS:

U Up?: Initially, I wasn’t a big fan of this podcast. But one of my best friends loves it so much, so I knew I needed to power through. The male host was a bit too cynical in his perspective, but then I warmed up to his part in the dynamic of the two hosts. And he definitely provides amazing male insight to dating etc. And now? I listen every week! They also read and respond to listener questions which is my favorite part and interview dating experts etc. One of my favorite dating podcasts now!

This is Why You’re Single: I used to listen to this one a bit more regularly than I do now (the hosts can get a little annoying after listening to too many, ha), but it’s definitely worth the mention as far as dating podcasts go. I love the guests they’ve brought on, but my favorite part is when they read and respond to listener’s dating and relationship questions. I’ve gotten valuable insights from their advice and analyses of all the craziness that is dating today!

Girls Gotta Eat: I don’t listen to this one regularly, but I loved the episodes that I’ve listened to over the past couple of months! The hosts are hilarious, bold (sometimes pretty crude so be prepared!), and they ask great, hard-hitting questions for their guests.

LIFESTYLE PODCASTS – TRUE CRIME:

My Favorite Murder: I became a fast fan of this podcast. And you may be asking yourself, “isn’t this a little dark for my morning commute?” Well, the hosts are absolutely hilarious, first off. The cases they cover are fascinating (they go back to the 1800’s sometimes!) and they do thorough research for each one. I recommend listening to see if it’s for you! If you don’t get anything else from it, I think it’s good to listen to for safety and awareness reasons.

Crime Junkie: This podcast is the BEST for a quick hit of true crime awesomeness. I love the way the host goes about telling the stories of each crime. She does a great job of doing her research and presenting in a way that feels like a friend telling you a scary story. She also does an amazing job in putting together all the evidence, videos, photos etc. for each case on her website where you can go for more details.

LIFESTYLE PODCASTS – PERSONAL GROWTH:

Super Soul Conversations:

The episodes that I’ve listened to so far have inspired me and even pried a tear or two from my eye. (#inspired) Not only does Oprah have an inspirational TV empire, she also has one of the most impactful podcasts. Only Oprah! I definitely think this is one of the best podcasts to listen to for a moving start to your day. I recommend starting with the Brene Brown episodes.

The Amber Lilyestrom Show: Amber is one of my favorite branding experts/business coaches to follow on Instagram. She just “gets it” as they say. I love her Focus Friday episodes because they always hit right to point about behaviors or fears that could be holding us back in our lives. I just really like the philosophy she has for being kind to yourself and giving yourself grace. Always a good message for this recovering perfectionist!

The Remedy: I particularly love this podcast because it’s recorded in Dallas! But I really love it because it features multiple episodes where my beloved therapist, Janice Gaunt, is interviewed. Start with the episodes interviewing her first – SO much goodness!

LIFESTYLE PODCASTS – BUSINESS/ENTREPRENEURSHIP:

The Influencer Podcast:

If you have a blog, side hustle, or want to start a blog, this podcast would be an amazing place to start. Julie Solomon, the host, is someone in the industry that I really admire. I feel like she asks her guests the good, deep questions that get to the root of what her listeners are looking to hear. That’s why I feel like it’s one of the best podcasts for listeners in the influencer industry. This can also be a good listen for anyone interested in influencer marketing and wanting to learn more about how it all works!

The Glossy Podcast: love this podcast because they interview the founders or big players at some of my favorite companies. Most are digitally-native companies and it’s so cool to see how these brands have built their fan base without a brick and mortar store in some cases. The host asks really good questions and the insights I’ve taken away from it have been so valuable.

There you have it – the best lifestyle podcasts for your morning commute. I hope one (or more) of these podcasts brings a little sparkle to your morning!  Let me know what you’re listening to if you’re a fellow podcast lover. I’m always looking for more recs!

5 Pieces to Chic Up Your Travel Style

5 Pieces to Chic Up Your Travel Style

5 Pieces to Chic Up Your Travel Style 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

Last year was a pretty big travel year for me with two trips to London and a family friend’s wedding in Ireland! This year has been a bit more tame with a few amazing trips this side of the pond. But I’ve been jealous watching everyone else’s getaways on Insta this summer! This got me thinking about how much I love airport and travel style (for real…Pinterest board dedicated to inspo here). Usually I opt for my go-to athleisure favorites for traveling. But when I shot this travel look, I started to think how it would be a great option for a more chic approach to travel style. It still has every element of comfort that I look for when I travel – just a little more structured!

Today, I’ll be sharing 5 travel style essentials to be comfortable and still look chic. Make sure to scroll down to find out what they are!

Top 5 Travel Style Essentials:

1. Casual Drape Trench

Are you one of those people that’s always cold? Because I AM, and I think I’d have a panic attack if I went to the airport without a jacket or trench like this! A drapey trench is a very chic, classic alternative to a sweatshirt or oversized cardi. You can also wear it with so much, so style it with your outfits on your trip – less to pack! This trench would be the perfect option. I have my eye on it – it keeps going on sale and I need to get it ASAP!

2. White Leather Sneakers

If you’ve heard me say it once, you’ll hear me say it again: A pair of white leather sneakers are a must-have for your wardrobe in today’s world. Especially for the airport with all of the walking, and I don’t know about you, but I just want a closed toe shoe option when on the plane. And now with pre-check it’s easier to wear sneaks because you don’t have to take your shoes off. (Or opt for a slide-on sneaker for easy removal if you fly without pre-check!) There are so many styles out there; you’re bound to find one that you love and that flatters you!

Sharing some of my favorites below:

3. Stretchy High-Waisted Jeans

There’s nothing I love more for my travel style than a high waist. That tucked in/sucked in feeling is hard to beat! These jeans would be the only ones that I would *ever, ever, ever* fly in because they are so comfy. Jeans can be just as cozy as a legging but formalize a look just a wee bit more!

4. Sleek Backpack OR Structured Leather Bag

I’ve always been one to grab an oversized tote for travel. But mostly traveling in a carry-on this year has really forced me to learn #minimalism. Enter the backpack. I found a backpack by this brand at TJ Maxx and have loved it ever since. It fits SO MUCH and the nylon is easy to wipe off if anything gets on it etc. Just the way it’s made allows for me to fit my must-haves or suitcase overflow into it easily and still stay organized!

On the other hand, a very structured, perhaps smaller leather bag can be a great travel option to house just your essentials you’ll need on the plane: headphones, makeup/toiletries, water, a book? I love a bag that’s small so it can slide under a plane seat easily but still roomy on the inside. Madewell and Cuyana have amazing options at really great price points. I also recommend choosing a pebbled leather option because it’s a bit more durable and stain-resistant than other leather textures!

5. Comfy Button-Down Blouse

Last but not least, there’s definitely a way to wear a silky or button-down blouse to the airport and still be comfortable. Athleta has an incredible line of athleisure clothes that are specifically made for travel and even work! I love this button down; it would be such a breeze to throw on and go. The silk shirt that I’m wearing in this post is from Everlane – very comfy and very affordable! They have so many classically tailored options that are designed with real women in real life in mind. You don’t have to look far for comfort from them – take a look here!

How to Treat Hormonal Acne (Plus a Skincare Schedule Template)

How to Treat Hormonal Acne (Plus a Skincare Schedule Template) 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

How to treat hormonal acne: such a loaded question! It’s something that I’ve struggled with for a long, long time. And it has taken years and years to find treatments that have made a noticeable difference. I’ve been on numerous antibiotics, tried all the creams, read different studies and articles etc. While I don’t have all of the answers, I do know much more about hormonal acne, its causes, and some techniques, products, and professionals that have really helped me along this journey. I wanted to share all of this knowledge with you in today’s blog post; it’s a long one but packed with info!

how to treat hormonal acne, hormonal acne remedies, how to get rid of hormonal acne, hormonal acne treatments, skincare routine, skincare schedule, cystic hormonal acne, acne remedies, acne treatment | How to Treat Hormonal Acne featured by top US beauty blog, Never Without Lipstick

11 Tips for How to Treat Hormonal Acne

#1: Have Your Hormones Checked Out

Surprise! We’re talking about how to treat hormonal acne so, of course, I’m gonna mention hormones! Can’t live with them, can’t live without them. If you’re noticing major breakouts or cysts popping up around your periods, definitely talk to your doctor about it. You could have a hormonal imbalance that’s causing those breakouts. Your doctor might recommend conducting some bloodwork to see what’s going on hormonally for you. This info can provide lots of answers when it comes to treatment of hormonal acne! That bloodwork can also determine the right form of birth control or best pill for you if that’s the route (or one of the steps) you decide to take to treat your hormonal breakouts. If you really want to dig into it, consult an endocrinologist!

#2: Consult a Dermatologist

Next, I recommend consulting a professional that knows all about skin. They went through many years of school just learning about it! A dermatologist will be able to tell you how to treat hormonal acne from a medical standpoint whether that’s through topicals or medication. Nine times out of ten I try to avoid being on antibiotics of any sort, but when it comes to hormonal, cystic acne, I feel a bit differently.

Hormonal acne or cysts are painful and not to mention unsightly. They’re some of the hardest zits to cover with makeup! They can arise from your body’s over-sensitivity to bacteria. Antibiotics help to fight that bacteria and calm your skin’s overreaction. I wouldn’t use this as a long-term solution, but I would recommend considering an antibiotic until your skin has calmed down. (Or ask your derm about Spiranolactone!) I have the same perspective when it comes to cortisone injections of cysts. There are just some that are so awful they MUST be injected!

The topical creams and ointments that a dermatologist prescribes can be helpful in overturning your skin cells faster and drying up the surface of those pesky cysts. I do have to emphasize drying here. Prescribed topicals have higher percentages of chemicals in them, so they are much stronger than your average over-the-counter option. To avoid over-drying your skin (read: extra oiliness as a result), start by applying your topical once a day every other day.

#3: Find a Trusted Esthetician

One of the best things that have happened to me on this journey was finding Becky Dyke at SkinZoneRX. She is such a wealth of knowledge about skin, causes behind breakouts, and recommending products and treatments to help with my acne. Becky helped me construct a regular skincare schedule that I have stuck to 95% religiously (some nights I get lazy – sorry Becky! But I always take my makeup off!). She walked through each step and product to explain to me what each product does and why it’s important in my routine. Something that I love about Becky is that she asks what products you’re currently using and tells you whether to keep using what you have or to consider an alternative. She’s not going to push an entirely new and expensive skin care regimen on you which I really appreciate! It’s also not a billion steps that are a pain to remember or exhausting to apply.

I now know so much more about my skin, why it behaves the way it does, and what products to use to treat my breakouts. It’s all about turning over those skin cells baby! Think retinol and salicylic or glycolic toners and face washes. If you’re in the DFW area, I highly recommend going to see Becky whether you have issues with your skin or not. Tell her I sent you!

Finding a trusted esthetician has been monumental for me in learning more about how to treat hormonal acne. You can use the weekly planning template I shared in this post to plan out your skincare routine! I’ve made a few recommendations on there based off of what I’ve learned from Becky 🙂

#4: IPL Laser Treatments

I started going to Becky because I wanted to address what I thought was scarring from my acne. She explained to me that what I was experiencing was actually acne staining. Because of the olive undertones of my skin, red or purple stains stay behind long after my acne has subsided. And one of the best ways to combat this is through IPL laser treatments. This laser speeds up the skin’s healing cycle and overturns that staining more powerfully and quickly. I’ve noticed amazing results from these treatments. They are an investment, so this is something I’d recommend further down the line once you’ve gotten your breakouts under more control.

#5: Vitamin C Supplements

This was another suggestion from Becky! Vitamin C strengthens your immune system which is huge when it comes to combatting hormonal acne breakouts. This will strengthen your body’s reaction to bacteria and hopefully reduce the amount of hormonal acne or cysts you see. I have been taking two Vitamin C pills each day for a few weeks and can see a noticeable difference in my skin. Everything seemed to calm down and redness wasn’t so intense.

#6: Sulfur Mask

I read about this mask on Into the Gloss quite awhile back. It has now become my go-to for shrinking cysts. I’d consider it essential in a how to treat hormonal acne arsenal! To be honest, I lather it onto areas that are prone to cysts or breakouts – primarily my T-zone. I’ll usually leave it on for at least 10 mins and if things are really bad I’ll even sleep with it on! During a breakout, I’ll try to use this mask every night or every other night to dry things up. This mask has even helped some smaller cysts develop a white head!

#7: Spot Treatment:

  • Acne Spot Stickers: When a pimple finally rises to a white head, pop one of these stickers on it overnight to dry it up. This will prevent you from scarring or staining your skin when trying to pop the pimple. These have been a life-saver for me because I am SO BAD about picking at my skin. It’s maybe one of my worst habits…
  • Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: Use this in the same way as the acne spots! There’s usually not a night that goes by when I don’t have this on at least one zit. The most important thing I can say about it is that IT WORKS.
  • Liquigel Ibuprofen: Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. Acne and cysts are inflammation surfacing on your skin. When I feel cysts coming up or have a particularly inflamed part of my face, I’ll cut open a liquigel and dab it onto my skin. It calms everything down and reduces the size of a cyst!

#8: Avoid Eating Dairy (and sugar…)

Trust me. I’m groaning and rolling my eyes as I write this. Such an inconvenient truth! But when I have been really focused on eating a clean, plant-based diet, I have noticed big changes in my skin. I once did a 21-day sugar detox and my skin was 98% CLEAR. I recommend starting with eliminating as much dairy as you can. Dairy has been proven to cause acne! There’s science behind it. If I go too hard on the cheese, I can expect at least 2 pimples to pop up the next day.

#9: Drink Mint Tea

This one *could* be an old wive’s tale, but it’s still worth mentioning. Try drinking spearmint or mint tea every day. It’s refreshing and packed with antioxidants to fortify your skin against bacteria. This won’t be a one-and-done solution or clear anything up overnight. But it is a good tactic to implement to combat your hormonal or cystic acne over time.

#10: Clean Up Your Makeup

Have you read my post about how to switch over to a clean beauty routine? You might want to go read it now if you haven’t! The FDA doesn’t have nearly as stringent requirements on what chemicals can be included in makeup as it should. Other countries are way more intense! The ingredients used in drugstore or big name makeup brands can have extremely negative effects on not only your skin but, more importantly, your whole body! Okay, off my soapbox, back to hormonal acne. As I mentioned before, hormonal acne and cysts pop up from a reaction to bacteria. By slowly changing your beauty products over to clean alternatives, you can start using things that are healthier for your skin and won’t clog your pores and create a breeding ground for more pimples.

A great place to start on this journey would be at Credo. It’s a 100% clean beauty retailer. Every product they offer has undergone rigorous scrutiny to be sold on their shelves. You can buy with confidence from them! They can help you switch over your products by finding clean beauty equivalents to what you’re currently using. And they’ll reward you for bringing in your empty containers of “dirty” or clean beauty products!

#11: Stress Management

Last but certainly not least, manage that stress, girl. SO much easier said than done. When we get stressed our bodies produce cortisol which then produces, you guessed it, pimples! There are so many ways to manage your stress, so find one that works best for you. Start by thinking about what situations get you the most stressed. Is it work-related? Could it be solved with time management? Ask yourself these questions, and I hope you’ll find a way to better manage your stress. I am so far from being an expert in this realm. *Please leave recommendations* But I do know that having a day planner, making a daily to-do list, and a task-management program (Trello) for work helps reduce my stress immensely. But exercise, going for walks, and reading are also other ways I combat getting over-stressed!

That’s all I have on how to treat hormonal acne…for now. I will continue to update this post on how to treat hormonal acne with any new findings or insights! You can always find my skincare and beauty products linked here.

If any of you struggle with hormonal acne, what are some of the techniques you’ve used to treat it? Let me know via DM on Insta or email me. I’d love to hear what you’ve tried and learned!

My 2019 Word of the Year & Weekly Planning Template

My 2019 Word of the Year & Weekly Planning Template 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

Happy New Year, lovies! I always love the fresh start we get in January because I spend lots of time writing lists and planning goals for the year. Who else’s Type A tendencies are flaring right now?! Right there with ya. Anyway…I decided to go with a word of the year this year for my “resolution” and this word including me creating a weekly planning template that I’m sharing with y’all! So I know you’re wondering, “what’s your word?” Drum roll please…DISCIPLINE.

Top Dallas life and style blog, Never Without Lipstick shares the Weekly Planning Template they use to stay on top of things.

That may initially sound like a bit of an intense or ~scary~ word of the year but that’s not how I’m thinking of it! I want to be more disciplined when it comes to the blog, my weekly skincare, apartment chores, exercise, etc. When I have a routine to follow, I’m more productive and more likely to make things happen. That’s why I set up this weekly planning template to lay out what I want to achieve each week and to stay on track. I also included an Other section on the weekly planning template because life happens, right? There will be some weeks that I don’t exercise at the same time one day or grocery shop on Sunday and not Saturday, etc.

If you’re also looking to build a weekly or daily routine, feel free to use this weekly planning template. I pre-filled each day with different categories, but you can switch those out to fit your needs! Just copy and paste the weekly planning template into your Google Drive, a Word Doc, or Notes on your phone – you name it! We’re all in this together (and yes, I’m mentally envisioning Zac Efron after writing that 😉 ).

My Other 2019 Resolutions:

  • Stick to and maintain the schedule I’ve made in my weekly planning template
  • Get laser hair removal
  • Change all of my hangers to the same color velvet hanger
  • Read at least 1 book a month (taking recommendations – comment below!)
  • Take riding lessons again (I rode horses for 10 years of my life and miss riding SO much!)
  • Take weekly meditative yoga classes
  • Travel Wish List: Bahamas, New York, and Paris

What are your resolutions or plans? Or do you have a word of the year? I want to know – share with me in the comments below!

Style Blush Pink and Grey Home Decor for Your Apartment

Style Blush Pink and Grey Home Decor for Your Apartment 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

Let me introduce my pride and joy, my oasis, my…blush pink and grey apartment.

I carefully planned out her decor during the final few months in my parents’ house, and I’m so proud to share how everything turned out! Initially, I kept gravitating toward very minimalistic, mid-century interiors and inspo. I even started planning out my room and researching decor in that style. But as I kept moving forward I just knew in my gut that it wasn’t me. My interiors style, at its core, is glam, girly, and chic!

So I made the decision to start over and stick to my true style. That’s how I landed on the blush pink and grey color palette with mixed metallic accents!

BLUSH PINK AND GREY ACCENTS:

Nightstand: I saw this nightstand for sale on Facebook and knew that with a fresh coat of paint it would make the BEST piece. It had that industrial glam touch that I needed! The nightstand’s golden hardware also made it easy to bring in gold and silver accents with the decor on top with the jewelry dishes. Cute and functional! The vase is from the Albertson’s floral section. Can you believe?! And of course the PRINTS 🙂 I’m a self-proclaimed Francophile and when my mom recommended I do a print quad I knew that I wanted it to be Parisian-inspired.

Bed: I already had this monogrammed Matouk coverlet from my bed at my parent’s house, but I knew I wanted to add in a headboard. I love the studded accents on the headboard and the texture it brings to the room! For the longest time, I hunted around for the right duvet and none were the right fit. That’s why I went with this quilt from West Elm! It’s simple and the pattern was the only thing that paired well with my coverlet.

When it came to the pillows, I wanted something very simple. I think the fringe pillow and velvet lumbar pillow add depth with their texture. The bed desperately needed a print and the antelope pillowcases were the perfect neutral option! I’m linking to all of the pillows below.

Bookshelf: I had my eyes on a similar bookshelf to the one in my room, but it was way too expensive. When I found this one at Target on sale, I ordered it immediately. A lot of the decor on the shelf just came from items I’d gathered along the way decorating dorm rooms and apartments in college. One of my biggest recommendations to decorate an apartment on a budget is to make the most that you can out of what you already have! Or to base your apartment’s theme off a lot of the decor you might already have. I did add in the faux peonies, sunglasses holder, and the Veuve Clicquot candle. It’s one of my favorite additions to the shelf and it’s from Leo Candle Co. – I’m in LOVE with it!

Desk: Welcome to the Never Without Lipstick headquarters 😉 Blush pink and grey are definitely brand-approved colors for NWL so you better believe they made it onto my desk!

TV Console: This girl loves herself some TV. So having a TV at the foot of my bed was a MUST, and I have absolutely loved it! I call my TV console my “color corner” because it’s the only area where you’ll see colors that veer from my blush pink and grey theme!

There’s little I love more than an amazing Amazon find and, according to the numbers, it looks like y’all agree!

THIS MONTH’S TOP 10 AMAZON FAVORITES:

  • Fuzzy Pullover: The minute this pullover came in I knew it would be on my forever list of Amazon favorites. It’s so cozy and actually really warm. I’ve slept in it, worn it over my workout clothes, and thrown it on for running errands. I ordered a large but definitely could have gone with a medium as it’s only slightly on the side of too oversized for me. I’ve also washed it a few times now and it hasn’t lost its softness or changed in its fit! The best and coziest $32 I’ve ever spent!

  • Faux Fur Slippers: I’ve seen slippers like these all over Instagram and they looked so dang cute and cozy. They should definitely be on your list of Amazon favorites especially for a perfect gift for you or a gal pal! Everybody needs this $14 pair <3
  • Ribbed T-Shirt (short sleeve & long sleeve): I raved about this tee on my Insta Stories on Friday, and the obsession is still going strong. These tees are the perfect wardrobe staple and they’re both under $20! They’re so easy to tuck in, perfect fall/winter layering pieces
  • Goyard Card Holder Dupe: This came in last week and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality! This is the perfect thing to have to throw into smaller purses or just to carry on the go. It’s a pretty dang good designer dupe for just $20!
  • Gold 8×10 Frames: Did you catch a peek at my newest additions to my apartment decor this weekend on my Insta Stories? If you missed it, you can get a look below! These gold frames were perfect for my teeny gallery wall. They’re great quality, lightweight, and were incredibly easy to hang! I’m obsessed with this little nook of my room now all thanks to these gold glam little Amazon favorites 🙂

  • Hyaluronic Acid Serum: I mentioned this serum in this post, but I just wanted to brag on it again. It’s a clean beauty product that’s high quality and so affordable! I use it as my nighttime moisturizer and sometimes in the mornings depending on my dryness!
  • Waffle Knit Henley Tunic: This tunic is so perfect and comfy for traveling or running errands. I got the medium and it’s the perfectly oversized fit.
  • Stainless Steel Reusable Straws: On the mornings that I make smoothies, I love having these straws to use to take them to go. They’re easy to clean, too!
  • Inflammatone Supplement: My co-worker told me about this supplement and it has been life changing. It’s a completely natural supplement with all natural ingredients that reduce inflammation in your body. It has completely eliminated my bloating. Yeah…you read that correctly. It’s a bit of an indulgence but totally worth it if you struggle with bloating regularly!! I’d recommend that you start with taking two a day and then up it from there just depending on the results.

On Monday night, I watched the Halloween episode of Suite Life of Zack & Cody (BEST episode of ALL time, no argument), so I think that makes it officially, officially fall 🙂 And while I was watching I got to thinking about all the cozy things that would make that experience even better. That’s what led me to write today’s post so that I could share all the cozy fall Amazon favorites you can get (and delivered via Prime)! From jammies to blankies, candles to beanies, this round up covers all the bases. I hope it helps you prep for more cozy days out in the autumn leaves and nights watching Halloween movies 🙂

Amazon Favorites for Autumn Days:

  1. Oversized Flannel: I got a similar flannel to this one last season and have yet to take it off now that the temps are becoming slightly cooler in Dallas. It’s perfect with boots and jeans or just with leggings and sneakers!
  2. Turtleneck Tunic: The other day I bought the turtleneck tunic I mentioned in this post, and now I’m wishing I’d known about this one! I’m thinking I’ll order this one and do a comparison between the two 😉 It just looks so cozy and easy to wear with everything.
  3. Chunky Scarf
  4. Pom Pom Beanie: I’ve been wanting a beanie like this one for a few seasons now. I think they’re so cute! There are so many different colors options – I want pink.
  5. Fuzzy Hoodie
  6. Waffle Henley Tunic: This is a great dupe for the Free People shirt just like this for a MUCH more reasonable price.
  7. Cotton Joggers
  8. Tie-Waist Henley: This is another great $18 dupe for a $44 version at Urban Outfitters. I think it’s such a versatile top for the fall and the tie-waist detail just adds something new to a basic henley.

Amazon Favorites for a Night In:

  1. Classic PJ Shorts Set: I know that cozy PJ pants are basically the spirit animal of fall, but when you’re bundled up in blankets and pillows, you’ll want a shorts set so you don’t overheat!
  2. Printed Avocado PJ Set: Too cute not to share…
  3. Fuzzy Mocassins: I’d never take these off!
  4. Pink and Fuzzy Slippers: These went immediately on my Amazon favorites wish list – I have a feeling I’ll order them by the end of this week, oops!
  5. Fleece Pullover: This is a dupe of a similar $78 pullover that sells out like crazy on Nordstrom. This one is cheaper though and has amazing reviews! It’s high up on my Amazon favorites list for sure.
  6. Pom Pom Blanket: Cozy and cute! This would be the perfect touch to add to your bed for a fall refresh.
  7. Chunky Knit Blanket: If you haven’t seen these blankets all over Instagram, then I don’t know if you’re using Insta properly! These look so crazy cozy!
  8. Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin Candle: I can’t seem to leave TJ Maxx without buying another pumpkin scented or fall scented candle…the more the merrier! This one smells so delish and would be perfect to burn during a Halloween movie marathon.
  9. Heated Blanket: Aesthetically, this may not be what you’re looking for, but once it gets colder this will be the best to snuggle up in on the couch or your bed.
  10. Fuzzy Socks: Need I say more??
  11. Girly Coffee/Hot Chocolate/Apple Cider Mug: I like the idea of this girly thermos because it’ll keep your fall sips warmer and you can fit more into it than any old coffee cup!
  12. Faux Fur Pillow: Your couch must have these for cozy movie nights!

Best Things to Do in San Francisco over a 4 Day Weekend

Best Things to Do in San Francisco over a 4 Day Weekend 900 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

I know that I mentioned I was exhausted from my week in San Francisco here, but it was truly so fun to get to be back in one of my favorite cities and seeing one of my best friends. We ate such great food and had an amazing time, so I wanted to share some of the best things to do in San Francisco after my second trip!

I was there for 4 days of vacation and then stayed the rest of the week for work. So if you’ve got a 4 day weekend to take or coming up, this post will be helpful in planning where to eat and what to do!

MY GUIDE TO THE BEST THINGS TO DO IN SAN FRANCISCO:

WHERE TO EAT:

Breakfast + Brunch:

Jane on Fillmore: Jane is always a winner in my book when it comes to brunch and it’s also very Instagrammable. Go for the avocado toast, sprinkle cookies, and a chai latte.

Split: We weren’t able to eat here, but saw it and wanted to go in immediately. It looked so cute and it looks like a great place to get a classic American breakfast.

Project Juice: If you’re in a hurry or wanting to slow down after a big dinner the night before, you can’t go wrong with a juice or smoothie here! If you go to the one on Polk St. just know that they don’t make the smoothies there to-go – it’s their juices and some smoothies pre-bottled.

Thorough Bread Cafe: This place had the best pastries…o.m.g. The blueberry scone and almond croissant were SO good.

Beanstalk Cafe: I had the best almond milk chai latte of the whole trip here – I want another one right now just thinking about it! This is the perfect place to go to for a bagel and other breakfast items if you’re looking to grab something and get going on the day’s activities.

Mr. Holmes Bakehouse: You’ve most likely seen this bakery on Instagram already and I have to say it’s definitely a must as far as best things to do in San Francisco go. Their branding is so cute and the pastries are unreal. We loved the sticky bun the most out of the donut and churro croissant that we tried. People were lining up for the cruffins (croissant-muffins?!) so if that sounds delicious to you get there early to get your spot in line!

Lunch:

Souvla: I WISH this place would come to Dallas. It is SO good. It’s a Greek restaurant where you can pick a dish to have either as a gyro or a salad. So fresh and so yummy! But definitely go hungry and order the garlic fries and the frozen greek yogurt with baklava on top – YUM.

Gracias Madre: Also another restaurant that I’d just die to have in Dallas. This is an entirely vegan Mexican restaurant but you seriously can’t even tell. Everything on the menu sounded so good. I ended up having vegan chorizo flautas that were unreal and our chips and guac to start were also pretty unforgettable.

Sweet Green: If you’re looking for something quick and healthy, this is the place to go!

Dinner:

Pane e Vino: This restaurant is a must. It’s a very authentic Italian restaurant with such a homey, family feel. And the pizza was some of the best pizza I’ve EVER had. Start with the burrata and get the Alla Salsiccia pizza for one of the best meals ever.

Pizzeria Delfina: Another amazing stop for pizza with a really great atmosphere. Our waitress also did an incredible job of recommending the most delicious things on the menu for us! I’ll never forget the fried risotto balls because they were so, so good. This restaurant also made it onto one of my favorite’s, Julia Engel’s, SF restaurant guide so pretty glad I got to eat there 🙂

The Big 4: I mentioned this bar/restaurant in last year’s post and it was so fun to go back on this trip! It is quite a bit pricier than other spots, so I’d save this for a special occasion or for your last meal before you head home.

Nob Hill Cafe: More amazing Italian to be had here with SUCH good homemade pasta. I would give anything to have that pesto tortellini again… The cozy atmosphere in here is also so lovely for an intimate dinner!

Drinks:

20 Spot: This wine and apps bar was so cool and an amazing spot for people watching. It’s a former record store which gives it its cool vibes. Go and split a bottle of wine with your friends before or after dinner!

Top of the Mark: I’d mentioned in last year’s post that I really wanted to make it here for a drink, so I’m glad I got to on this trip. We ate a yummy cheese board and sipped on Moscow Mules while overlooking the gorgeous skyline. This is a must do on any trip to San Fran!

Dessert:

Bi-Rite Creamery: When I think of great fro-yo, I’ll be thinking of this place. Their soft serve with rainbow sprinkles was SO creamy and thick. Maybe it’s a good thing I don’t live in San Fran because I’d eat this dangerously often!

The Loving Cup: Even though I was indulging in #allthethings over the past week, I did manage to get a healthier, dairy-free dessert in once – yay me 😛 ! I love The Loving Cup because they can blend up dairy-free yogurt for you with any toppings of your choice.

BEST THINGS TO DO IN SAN FRANCISCO:

Dolores Park: We spent Sunday afternoon just sitting in the park, listening to music, and people watching. It made me wish there were parks like this in Dallas! That’s why sitting out in a park like this one is one of the best things to do in San Francisco.

Pier 39: We didn’t get around to doing this but it’s high up on the list for next time. It’s a shopping center with carousels and rides out on a pier! This is also where you can go to see the sea lions sun bathing 😉

Alcatraz: If you’ve never done this before on a visit to SF or are visiting for the first time, it’s definitely a must. Book your tickets in advance though!

Day Trip to Sonoma: We had planned on heading to Napa for the day over the weekend, but you need to make reservations much farther in advance. So we headed to Sonoma for a more relaxed vibe and so that we could do more without any prior planning.

  • Grab lunch to go at Glen Ellen Village Market: My sister-in-law’s sister (say that 5 times fast) gave us great recs for Sonoma and this one was so helpful! We stopped in here first to grab delicious sandwiches and other snacks to go to eat out at the wineries.
  • Head to Benziger + Imagery: These are sister wineries and both so beautiful. I really loved Benziger’s tasting room – it was so easy to taste, grab a bottle, and head out to some chairs to eat our lunch. Imagery was my favorite from the day though because they have lawn games and chairs surrounding the lawn that you can just relax in and take in the scenery.
  • Chateau St. Jean: Make sure to head out to Sonoma before noon-ish so that you can spend a good amount of time at each winery. Most of them close at 5, so since we headed out a little later, we didn’t get to make it this winery. It’s DEFINITELY on my list for next time!

Best Things to Do in San Francisco – Shopping near Fillmore:

  • Lip Lab by Bite Beauty: My sweet friend took me here to make my own custom lipstick for my birthday! It was SO much fun and would be perfect for you and a friend or a small group. Make sure to make an appointment because it’s very popular and unlikely you can get in as a walk-in.
  • Joie: We met the nicest sales lady in Joie, so it made discovering these booties even better (and for 25% off!). They’re the PERFECT boot to wear with bare legs with dresses and skirts. You know how some boots can cut your leg off in a weird way and give you cankles? Well NOT these – that’s why I think they’re worth the investment!
  • Anomie: I mentioned this boutique in my post about San Fran from last year, but I just had to go again on this trip. I’d been wanting to get this shirt ever since my friend had gotten it the year previously. This boutique is super well curated and has really unique clothes, bags, and jewelry. Also obsessed with the candle brands they stock there!
  • Isalis: Didn’t end up buying anything at this boutique, but I loved everything that they had. Definitely worth a stop in and it’s right by Anomie!

WHAT TO PACK:

One of the best things to do in San Francisco is people watch, and I especially love to see what people are wearing in other cities! It gives me so much outfit inspo. After visiting San Fran last year, I had a better idea of what to bring along on this trip so I wanted to share 🙂

Crew Neck Tees: I always travel with tees like this one in 2-3 different colors. They’re perfect for layering and using as a base for different outfits and with jackets!

Cargo or Jean JacketSan Fran can start to warm up more as the fall months start which is strange, so I didn’t need to bring too heavy of a jacket with me on this trip. That’s why it was essential to top off an outfit with either a jean jacket or camo military jacket in the evenings when it cooled down!

Leather Sneakers: To be honest, I didn’t pack my favorite pair of leather sneakers with me this time and had ALL the regrets. There were so many times when we were going to be walking somewhere to eat and all I wanted to do was grab my sneaks but only had booties. Needless to say, bring a pair of comfortable walking shoes that will go with your outfits! This pair truly is amazing and my all-time favorite.

Fall Dress: If only I’d discovered this dress before our day trip to Sonoma! I didn’t bring a dress with me on the trip, but this one I ended up buying would have been perfect for the wineries. Bring a dress that you can easily layer with a jacket and pair with booties or sneakers to go between more dressed up and casual.

Do you have any San Fran recs? Please share! I absolutely love this city and want to go back already to eat and see more!

Life After College | What I’ve Learned One Year Later

Life After College | What I’ve Learned One Year Later 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

Technically, it’s been a little over a year since I graduated from college, but it’s my birthday today which always makes me want to be reflective over the past year. Life after college has been both challenging and rewarding at the same time. I feel like I’ve grown so much more in this past year than I did in the four years of actual college believe it or not! I’ve been thinking about where I was mentally at this time last year and there really have been a lot of changes that I can see in myself.

WHAT I’VE LEARNED IN LIFE AFTER COLLEGE:

Everybody is uncertain about what’s next

I can’t tell you how many times my close friends and I have talked about how we just don’t know what the heck we’re doing/want to do with our lives next. In college, you always knew what was coming up: next course to take, next test, next grade to get, etc. but that certainty doesn’t exist anymore once you graduate. While having your first job or being in grad school may *seem* certain or structured, you’re all of a sudden thinking about the ~rest of your life~. What do you want it to look like? Are you in the right place/job/city to get to where you want to go? Where DO I want to go? You get the picture. What’s amazing about feeling like this is that everybody else is in the same dang boat. Growing up wouldn’t be a thing if we knew all the answers, but that sure would be nice!

Here a few things that I do when I get freaky about the future:

  • Talk to the friends that are a little bit older than me: They’ve been in this headspace before and have been out of college a pinch longer than I have. It’s so nice to have someone say, “I totally get what you’re going through.” They help me to translate my worries into words and concrete actions I can take to feel less freaked out about my life’s plan.
  • Be honest with myself about my career: I know deep down that I eventually want to run my own business and have the freedom that comes with self-employment. Knowing and accepting this about myself helps me to frame my plans for the next couple of years in what I need to learn and do to get to self-employment at some point. It also keeps me going on the tough days at work because I know that I’m learning skills and lessons that will prepare me in the future as a business owner.
  • Write out some generic goals:  Since I definitely don’t know all of my life goals at this point, I’ve been trying to focus on shorter term time frames with my goals instead. I’m also keeping them generic because I know that when I get too into the nitty gritty I can overdo it and end up beating myself up for not meeting unrealistic expectations. I’ve started setting generic goals for the month ahead of me like finances, books, or working towards getting a car (inspo from Molly On The Move’s post!). I write out a few bullet points beneath each goal that are easily actionable steps toward that goal for the month. As the months go by and you re-evaluate your goals, themes will start to pop up that can help you get clarity on what you’re prioritizing over and over again. That could lead you to knowing what your dream job is or what a passion of yours is! The process just helps me to take things one step at a time and *attempt* to calm down about not knowing exactly how the future will unfold.

YOU have to take responsibility over your health & wellbeing

You might’ve just read that and thought, “yeah, duh.” But hear me out! I think in college we take for granted that we’re young and very healthy. I know that I pushed aside feelings of my worsening anxiety in college because I kept thinking that I shouldn’t feel this way. I was in college – it was supposed to be the best and happiest time of my life! But that mentality led to stubbornness and shame when it came to admitting I didn’t feel 100% physically or mentally. I really had to get over that this year…

A few weeks after graduation, some of my blood work from a routine checkup really alarmed my doctor and he recommended that I have an expensive (and scary) procedure within 2-3 months of that appointment. After the initial shock of learning this, I had to kick it into high gear to hunt down answers about what was up with my body and my health. That meant finding and scheduling appointments with other specialists and doctors that could help me figure everything out. In the end, I learned that I have an autoimmune condition that was causing the issues with my blood work results. Luckily, it’s easily treatable, but I would have never known had I just remained scared about those results.

I am beyond grateful for the doctors who have helped me along this journey. It gave me a crash course in being more aware of my body/how I’m feeling and to not wait for something scary to happen to take charge of my health. As annoying, time-consuming, and oftentimes frightening it can be to go through something like this, there really is no greater feeling than taking the necessary steps to be as healthy as you should be. Like my mom always says to me, “What’s the alternative?!” And she’s right! Again, it’s hard to admit when we’re not feeling our best, but on the other side of that shame, there’s maximum healthiness and happiness to be had 🙂

Change comes from action, not thought

I could only think “ugh” to myself writing this point but, unfortunately, it’s very, very true. Ugh again! I spent months just talking and talking about changes I wanted to see in my life but never did anything about it. Why? Because I was (am still more often than not) scared that I’d be a huge failure and make a wrong choice for my life. I’m a Libra, so I can be very indecisive and spend countless days and hours evaluating different decisions and trying to predict which would have the better outcome. But the only thing I’m doing is wasting time on taking action to get things done! Over this past year in life after college, I’ve had to try very hard to be brave, push through my fear, and take the actions I need to to see changes. It’s always tough for me to move forward on something when I’m scared, but so many more positives have come from me taking action than what would’ve happened had I done nothing at all!

XXX | chic work outfit, fall outfit, chic outfit idea, street style outfit, faux leather jacket outfit | Thoughts on life after college shared by popular Dallas life and style blogger, Never Without Lipstick

The journey is the destination

We’ve arrived at my final point a.k.a. the hardest lesson for me to learn in life after college and maybe in life in general. I had never realized how I perceived happiness until I read a few books (particularly this one) this year that talked about how some people treat happiness as a destination. A strange thought, right? There has always been a checklist of life accomplishments in my head that I needed to address before I thought I could be or deserved to be happy, so to say. I never understood until now that if you’re not happy along the journey, you’re never going to be! There’s always something else to put on the list to accomplish.

What I’ve learned in life after college is that happiness and joy happen in moments. This was something that was initially hard for me to accept. I had the misperception that everything needed to be happy and perfect all the time. And if it wasn’t, then I thought I was doing something wrong and I’d write out another list of goals to achieve to get me closer to eventual happiness later in life. I’m working really hard on staying more aware in these moments of joy to see how I’ve grown, how I’d like to grow more, and what I’ve learned. I’m now looking at my journey as the beautiful path I’m taking that leads me to these happy moments that overwhelm me with gratitude and love or leave me feeling so proud of myself for being brave and pushing through my fears.

Thanks for reading along if you’ve made it this far – I know this was a longer post! I’m so happy to have a place to share and open up about my journey in life after college and what I’m learning. Any other recent college graduates out there that with any more tips or lessons about life after college? Please share – I’d love to hear and chat!

Head here to read last year’s birthday post and learn 23 things you might not know about me 😉

Pilates Barre Studio: Why I Choose a Workout Studio Over a Gym 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

Pilates Barre Studio review featured by popular Dallas life and style blogger, Never Without Lipstick

It’s been a minute since I’ve done a fitness post around here! For the past year now, I have consistently been working out at the Pilates Barre studio and TreadBarre here in Dallas. I thought I’d talk about the reasons why I choose to exercise at a studio versus with a trainer, on my own, at a gym, etc. with y’all if you’re evaluating different options or considering a change. I actually started doing pilates my junior year of high school at the Pilates Barre (not sponsored, just obsessed), so I like to think that I’m well-versed on the studio membership approach to exercise.

Pilates Barre Studio review featured by popular Dallas life and style blogger, Never Without Lipstick

5 Reasons Why I Exercise at the Pilates Barre Studio:

  1. Accountability: This is truly the #1 reason that I budget for a studio membership. When I know that there’s a teacher & a class of people (oh and a charge for missing a class!) waiting on me, I’m 1000 times more likely to get my arse to a workout. If I just planned on going to the gym to workout, I can tell you I’d just put it off until forever like the time I attempted to commit to BBG…#sorrykayla 🙂 I also love that someone will be telling me what to do which means I don’t have to think about/plan it which leads me into my next point…
  2. Professional Instruction: Making sure you have professionally trained instructors at your studio should be high up on your list when you’re evaluating studio options. The instructors at Pilates Barre are very knowledgeable, friendly, offer exercise modifications for those with injuries, and have killer playlists. Feeling like you can connect with your instructors and trust their expertise is so important.
  3. Group Setting: In the past, I have had mixed experiences with one-on-one training. I’ve had a really negative & discouraging personal trainer and then a very encouraging and warm trainer. But I just don’t think this is the model that works best for me primarily because of cost. The higher cost also limited me from being able to workout more than once or twice a week because, like I said earlier, if I’m left to do my own workout it doesn’t happen! Know thyself, lol. I also think I don’t like having that much attention just on me. In studio classes, there’s a camaraderie that comes along with sweating it out as a whole group. One of my favorite parts about the Pilates Barre studio is that people (women and men!) of all ages, shapes, and sizes workout there. This really makes it feel like such an inclusive and positive experience for me!
  4. Consistency: I think that both ClassPass and StudioHop are amazing, and I loved getting to try new studios when I had memberships with both companies. But I always found myself wanting to go to just one place where I was familiar with the teachers, the parking sitch, etc. When I’m consistent with my exercise, I notice such a massive reduction in my stress that day & week – that’s worth its weight in gold! I’m also able to stay consistent in scheduling my workouts at the beginning of each week with the PilatesBarre phone app. I can stay on track with how many workouts I get in each week. Ease of scheduling is such a key factor when you’re choosing a studio because you’ll want booking your workouts to easily become a weekly habit.
  5. Pricing Bundles & Deals: Most studios will offer discounts for new clients or for auto-renew packages. Each time that I have reached the end of my membership package, I’ll get an email from the PilatesBarre with a great offer on another class package. These deals have been great because I pay a better price (when averaged out per month) for a few months at a time and don’t have to worry about the monthly auto-renew cost which has always stressed me out with other studios. They’re also always running deals on class packages! I know that the expense can be a major deterrent for those considering a studio membership, but if the above reasons also describe you and your needs, definitely consider it as an option. I recommend determining your budget ahead of time and asking about different deals and promotions as well as their policies about cancelling contracts, etc. if you don’t end up loving the studio!
