Dupe Deals : Top 10 Designer Dupe Headbands 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

If you follow me on Instagram (join the party here), you’re probably familiar with my “Dupe Deals’ feature on my Insta Stories! After this post was such a success, I decided to start sharing more dupes in all kinds of categories. I always love a look for less moment. Let’s kick off Dupe Deals today with my favorite designer dupe headbands!

I don’t know about you, but I just can’t stand how some of the headbands I love the most are $150 or more! I’ve dug around the interwebs to bring you ten amazing dupe headbands as options for all of your headband dreams. From knotted styles to pearl embellishments, I have you covered!

Dallas fashion blogger Never Without Lipstick shares 10 designer dupe headbands options for a look for less! | lele sadoughi headband, jennifer behr headband, headband hairstyles, pearl headband, knotted headband | Top 10 Designer Dupe Headbands featured by top US fashion blog, Never Without Lipstick

Lele Sadoughi Pearl Embellished Headband Dupe

Quite a few of these dupe headbands are inspired by Lele Sadoughi’s designs. I love everything she creates but just can’t justify those hefty price tags!

  • I got this dupe from Etsy and love it! I love the girly texture that the pearls add and the tweed fabric is so Chanel. The Etsy shop is in Korea, so the shipping took about 2 weeks – just FYI. I do think you can get expedited shipping which I’ll definitely do if I order something from her again.
  • This $13 dupe is from H&M and comes in cream and black!
  • If you’re not into the knotted version and looking for something more simple, try this thin velvet and pearl choice!

Lele Sadoughi Satin Knot Headband Dupe

The knotted headband might just be the post popular headband style at the moment. I’m so excited to provide some dupe headbands for this style in particular!

  • This $10 option from Target is so comfortable (important with headbands!) and adds such a sleek touch to a look.
  • Obviously you can’t go wrong with a $14 leopard version!
  • How cute is this ribbed version? That hot pink color is probably going right into my cart – a must-have!

Jennifer Behr Headband Dupes

I have to reiterate my statement from above when it comes to Jennifer Behr as well. Her pieces are truly gorgeous and the prices match that level of quality and detail. But if you’re not looking to splurge, I think that the dupes below make great choices.

  • I think that this dupe more closely resembles this Jennifer Behr braided satin version, but it comes in a little higher at $82. It’s the perfect style for an event or special occasion, so might be worth it – and still less than $295 for the real deal! For a similar dupe for less, try this one for $19.

Hermes Head Scarf Dupe

The Hermes twilly scarves might just be the rare items you can find for under $200 at such a luxury retailer. While a twilly could be a very multi-purpose purchase (headband, hair tie, or addition to your purse or wrist), you can easily achieve the same look for much less with this set of Hermes-inspired scarves. I also love this $10 option!

I hope you loved this first installment of Dupe Deals on the blog all about dupe headbands! There won’t be a Dupe Deals blog post every week, but if you subscribe to my emails, you’ll receive exclusive Dupe Deals emails right to your inbox every week even when there’s not a post up. Subscribe and join the endless look for less fun! Is there a category of dupes you’d like for me to cover? Email me or reach out on Insta, and I’ll get a list going 🙂

Top 10 Cruelty Free Highlighters for Everyday Wear

Top 10 Cruelty Free Highlighters for Everyday Wear 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

With warmer temps and more sunshine, it’s time to work on that dewy springtime glow with some cruelty free highlighters! I’ve rounded up my top 10 that deliver the best results when it comes to glow.

As some of you might know, I made the switch to using cruelty-free everything a little over a year ago. It has been one of the best choices I’ve made and has now led me to so many amazing clean beauty products as well! If you’re interested in making the switch to cruelty-free and clean beauty products, read this post on how to start and which products to switch first. It’s helpful to get educated about the harmful chemicals to look out for on labels. Credo has a complete ‘dirty list’ and very detailed explanations of the side effects etc!

These 10 cruelty free highlighters are the best for everyday glow…

Cruelty Free and Vegan Powder Highlighters

Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Pressed Highlighter (cruelty-free): The Becca highlighter is a cult-favorite for a reason. The pigment is unbeatable, the color range is huge, and it’ll last you forever. I wear this one in either ‘Champagne Pop’ or ‘Rosy Quartz’ on a daily basis! 90% of the time I reach for a powder highlighter; it’s the best for my combination/oily skin. As my skin gets oily throughout the day, sometimes creamier highlighters have transferred down my face a bit. You don’t have to worry about that with powder! These also come in mini size which are perfect for travel.

Pixi by Petra Glow-Y Duo (cruelty-free): Definitely turn to this brand for affordable but high-performing products. This highlighter duo is well formulated to bring a depth of glow to your look. Since there are two colors, you can wear each by itself or together for more depth to your highlight. I love how delicately this one wears!

Urban Decay Backtalk Palette (cruelty-free): I was thrilled when Urban Decay gifted me this gorgeous palette (thank you!). It seriously has everything you need all in one place. You can go from light feminine looks to smokier more romantic vibes. BUT an added bonus of this palette is the light pink shimmery highlighter it includes! The soft pink undertones of the highlighter complement any rosy or pink blush and add dimension to your look. I also think pink highlighter hues are a great place to start just since they tend toward the more natural glow realm!

Hourglass Strobe Lighting Powder (vegan & cruelty-free): Hourglass cosmetics are high-quality all around. Their highlighters are no exception! These highlighter powders are specially formulated to catch the light and give you an easy, effortless glow-from-within look. Since the product is aiming for a more naturally glowing look, these do go on a bit lighter/are a bit more sheer than other powders.

(P.S. I also highly recommend their bronzer for exceptional blendability and natural shades that don’t give harsh contour lines. I also have been using their stick foundation for over a year now and will never ever go back to liquid. If you’re in the market for a new foundation, I highly, highly recommend it!)

Liquid and Cream Highlighters

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Beauty Highlighter Wand (cruelty-free): This highlighter really delivers when it comes to glow. It’s a must-buy when it comes to cruelty free highlighters! It’ll look like you just got your makeup professionally done. Whenever my friend wears this one, she always gets so many compliments! You can just dab this one on your cheekbones, bridge of your nose, cupid’s bow etc. to get the desired glow. I’d start out with a little and then add if you want more shimmer. If I really want to be a dewy goddess, I put this one on and then the Becca powder over it to set it.

rms beauty Luminizer (clean & cruelty-free): This would be your go-to for a very natural glow. Are you the type of girl that just wears a bit of foundation or concealer? Add this into your routine. I have the satin-pearl shade and anytime I wear it I love how it appears like I’m glowing from within. It is coconut oil based, so I would apply it sparingly if you have more oily skin! Because of my oilier skin, I can’t live without powder over my foundation. This one doesn’t layer over powder well so I apply it after my foundation and then take a beautyblender to apply my powder just in my T-zone!

Rituel de Fille Rare Light Luminzer (clean & cruelty-free): This product is so gorgeous on and the packaging/branding is so luxe! I have it in the ‘Anthelion’ shade and it’s like I’m adding 24K gold flakes onto my skin. The pigment is so rich and really delivers. This would be another great addition for any of you makeup minimalists. My same application tips from above apply here too if your skin tends toward the oily combo side!

Hourglass Highlighting Stick (vegan & cruelty-free): If you’re wanting to try out highlighter in your routine, this highlighter stick would be a good place to start. It adds a sheer but natural glow. Once you’re ready to amp it up a bit, layer an Hourglass highlighter powder over it for more of a statement.

Glossier Haloscope (vegan, clean & cruelty-free): Another affordable ($22) option for those new to wearing highlighter or minimal makeup people. I love its size because it’s easy to travel with or throw in your makeup bag to add glow on the go!

Juice Beauty Illuminating Primer (clean & cruelty-free): Now here is a different route to highlight altogether! If you’re looking to get a lit-from-within, more subtle glow, then this would be your product of choice. I recommend starting out by using this product sparingly as a primer or just on the high points of your face under your foundation. I went a little too heavy the first time I used it, and my face ended up looking too shiny all over! You can also easily mix a drop or two of this into your regular primer or liquid foundation for an added glowy touch.

I hope you’re ready to get glowing with these cruelty free highlighters! I’ve loved adding in a bit of shimmer to my everyday makeup routine, and I think you will, too. You can see more of my must-have clean and cruelty-free makeup and skincare products here!

The 15 Best Hair Accessories for Long Hair

The 15 Best Hair Accessories for Long Hair 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

Hair accessories are having a BIG moment right now. It’s a full-on Blair Waldorf frenzy, and I’m very here for it. All of my favorite retailers are getting in on the trend, too! My mom always had me in a massive bow when I was little, so the hair accessory game and I have some major history. I can also remember wearing a headband of some sort almost every day in middle school! The styles right now add an easy & glam touch to your hair for work. Or they can just add a little something extra to an outfit to make it feel more put together.

Today I’m sharing fifteen of the best hair accessories for long hair (or short hair!) to add into your daily hair wardrobe.

Hair accessories are an efficient and affordable way to speed up getting ready in the morning or going out and about. They’re also perfect for extending your second and third-day hair. (Yes, I’m insinuating that they can cover up any remaining bits of greasy sheen your dry shampoo didn’t catch, lol) All of these hair accessories would also be small and easy enough to pack for upcoming spring/summer getaways. Such a cute way to keep your hair up at the beach or pool without sacrificing style!

CUTE & AFFORDABLE HAIR ACCESSORIES FOR LONG HAIR

Headbands

I found this knotted headband at Target, and it’s now on sale for $8.50. I put my hair in a low middle part bun and pop this on for a chic hair statement! It’s also cute to add in over second-day curls.

My friend got this set of velvet knotted headbands from Amazon, and they’re SO cute. She wore the black velvet one to dinner this weekend with jeans, a tee, and a bomber. It added the perfect feminine touch to a cool, edgy outfit!

If you really want to go for a statement-maker, try a bit bigger of a headband with a twist detail like this one.

We can’t forget a Blair Waldorf classic: a padded velvet headband for the win! Or an animal print option here

Clips

The bigger the clip the better seems to be the mood around this hair accessory…

These oversized, pearl-embellished clips are $15 on Amazon and look very bold and feminine for a hair down kind of day.

Simple and sleek metallic clips are the look I gravitate towards. This rounded gold clip pops over a ponytail holder easily and looks so sharp for work or a dinner out!

You know when you pull a ponytail halfway through to make a bun? Well, you can spice that up by clipping the leftover hair beneath the bun with a big gold clip like one in this set! Find inspo here.

Bows

Again, I am no stranger to bows. I love clipping a satin bow in with a low ponytail! It’s also cute to “dress up” a half up, half down look.

This bow scrunchie kind of does all the work for you. Since it has a pre-tied bow, you can just slip it on over a bun or pony, and you’re good to go!

Scarves

Now I am no pro when it comes to using scarves in my hair. But with this scarf scrunchie, I don’t have to be! It comes in lots of color options and is only $12.

One of my favorite bloggers, Jess Kirby, has a great tutorial on how to tie a scarf into your hair! I think one of the key tricks is getting thinner, smaller scarves that are easy to fold up to tie around a ponytail or bun.

Scrunchies

I’m really into bunny ear scrunchies because you have the added benefit of the bow (“bunny ears”) which makes it *ever so slightly* more formal. Throw one over a low bun, top knot, or high pony!

I always love Liberty London’s gorgeous floral fabrics, and J.Crew has a whole line of scrunchies in their patterns!

Leopard is also having a huge moment right now so this leopard bunny ear scrunchie had to make it on the best hair accessories for long hair list.

This set of regular leopard scrunchies is also an under $10 fave.

Where do you stand on hair accessories? Into it, not into it?

I know that I’ve had so much fun styling the accessories that I’ve bought over the past couple of months. The level of statement you want to make is really up to you since there are so many options! Go for bold hues and details or simple, sleek clips. Hair accessories are an incredibly easy way for everybody to spice up their daily hairstyles. You don’t need to know any special skills or braiding techniques etc.

How to Treat Hormonal Acne (Plus a Skincare Schedule Template)

How to Treat Hormonal Acne (Plus a Skincare Schedule Template) 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

How to treat hormonal acne: such a loaded question! It’s something that I’ve struggled with for a long, long time. And it has taken years and years to find treatments that have made a noticeable difference. I’ve been on numerous antibiotics, tried all the creams, read different studies and articles etc. While I don’t have all of the answers, I do know much more about hormonal acne, its causes, and some techniques, products, and professionals that have really helped me along this journey. I wanted to share all of this knowledge with you in today’s blog post; it’s a long one but packed with info!

11 Tips for How to Treat Hormonal Acne

#1: Have Your Hormones Checked Out

Surprise! We’re talking about how to treat hormonal acne so, of course, I’m gonna mention hormones! Can’t live with them, can’t live without them. If you’re noticing major breakouts or cysts popping up around your periods, definitely talk to your doctor about it. You could have a hormonal imbalance that’s causing those breakouts. Your doctor might recommend conducting some bloodwork to see what’s going on hormonally for you. This info can provide lots of answers when it comes to treatment of hormonal acne! That bloodwork can also determine the right form of birth control or best pill for you if that’s the route (or one of the steps) you decide to take to treat your hormonal breakouts. If you really want to dig into it, consult an endocrinologist!

#2: Consult a Dermatologist

Next, I recommend consulting a professional that knows all about skin. They went through many years of school just learning about it! A dermatologist will be able to tell you how to treat hormonal acne from a medical standpoint whether that’s through topicals or medication. Nine times out of ten I try to avoid being on antibiotics of any sort, but when it comes to hormonal, cystic acne, I feel a bit differently.

Hormonal acne or cysts are painful and not to mention unsightly. They’re some of the hardest zits to cover with makeup! They can arise from your body’s over-sensitivity to bacteria. Antibiotics help to fight that bacteria and calm your skin’s overreaction. I wouldn’t use this as a long-term solution, but I would recommend considering an antibiotic until your skin has calmed down. (Or ask your derm about Spiranolactone!) I have the same perspective when it comes to cortisone injections of cysts. There are just some that are so awful they MUST be injected!

The topical creams and ointments that a dermatologist prescribes can be helpful in overturning your skin cells faster and drying up the surface of those pesky cysts. I do have to emphasize drying here. Prescribed topicals have higher percentages of chemicals in them, so they are much stronger than your average over-the-counter option. To avoid over-drying your skin (read: extra oiliness as a result), start by applying your topical once a day every other day.

#3: Find a Trusted Esthetician

One of the best things that have happened to me on this journey was finding Becky Dyke at SkinZoneRX. She is such a wealth of knowledge about skin, causes behind breakouts, and recommending products and treatments to help with my acne. Becky helped me construct a regular skincare schedule that I have stuck to 95% religiously (some nights I get lazy – sorry Becky! But I always take my makeup off!). She walked through each step and product to explain to me what each product does and why it’s important in my routine. Something that I love about Becky is that she asks what products you’re currently using and tells you whether to keep using what you have or to consider an alternative. She’s not going to push an entirely new and expensive skin care regimen on you which I really appreciate! It’s also not a billion steps that are a pain to remember or exhausting to apply.

I now know so much more about my skin, why it behaves the way it does, and what products to use to treat my breakouts. It’s all about turning over those skin cells baby! Think retinol and salicylic or glycolic toners and face washes. If you’re in the DFW area, I highly recommend going to see Becky whether you have issues with your skin or not. Tell her I sent you!

Finding a trusted esthetician has been monumental for me in learning more about how to treat hormonal acne. You can use the weekly planning template I shared in this post to plan out your skincare routine! I’ve made a few recommendations on there based off of what I’ve learned from Becky 🙂

#4: IPL Laser Treatments

I started going to Becky because I wanted to address what I thought was scarring from my acne. She explained to me that what I was experiencing was actually acne staining. Because of the olive undertones of my skin, red or purple stains stay behind long after my acne has subsided. And one of the best ways to combat this is through IPL laser treatments. This laser speeds up the skin’s healing cycle and overturns that staining more powerfully and quickly. I’ve noticed amazing results from these treatments. They are an investment, so this is something I’d recommend further down the line once you’ve gotten your breakouts under more control.

#5: Vitamin C Supplements

This was another suggestion from Becky! Vitamin C strengthens your immune system which is huge when it comes to combatting hormonal acne breakouts. This will strengthen your body’s reaction to bacteria and hopefully reduce the amount of hormonal acne or cysts you see. I have been taking two Vitamin C pills each day for a few weeks and can see a noticeable difference in my skin. Everything seemed to calm down and redness wasn’t so intense.

#6: Sulfur Mask

I read about this mask on Into the Gloss quite awhile back. It has now become my go-to for shrinking cysts. I’d consider it essential in a how to treat hormonal acne arsenal! To be honest, I lather it onto areas that are prone to cysts or breakouts – primarily my T-zone. I’ll usually leave it on for at least 10 mins and if things are really bad I’ll even sleep with it on! During a breakout, I’ll try to use this mask every night or every other night to dry things up. This mask has even helped some smaller cysts develop a white head!

#7: Spot Treatment:

  • Acne Spot Stickers: When a pimple finally rises to a white head, pop one of these stickers on it overnight to dry it up. This will prevent you from scarring or staining your skin when trying to pop the pimple. These have been a life-saver for me because I am SO BAD about picking at my skin. It’s maybe one of my worst habits…
  • Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: Use this in the same way as the acne spots! There’s usually not a night that goes by when I don’t have this on at least one zit. The most important thing I can say about it is that IT WORKS.
  • Liquigel Ibuprofen: Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory. Acne and cysts are inflammation surfacing on your skin. When I feel cysts coming up or have a particularly inflamed part of my face, I’ll cut open a liquigel and dab it onto my skin. It calms everything down and reduces the size of a cyst!

#8: Avoid Eating Dairy (and sugar…)

Trust me. I’m groaning and rolling my eyes as I write this. Such an inconvenient truth! But when I have been really focused on eating a clean, plant-based diet, I have noticed big changes in my skin. I once did a 21-day sugar detox and my skin was 98% CLEAR. I recommend starting with eliminating as much dairy as you can. Dairy has been proven to cause acne! There’s science behind it. If I go too hard on the cheese, I can expect at least 2 pimples to pop up the next day.

#9: Drink Mint Tea

This one *could* be an old wive’s tale, but it’s still worth mentioning. Try drinking spearmint or mint tea every day. It’s refreshing and packed with antioxidants to fortify your skin against bacteria. This won’t be a one-and-done solution or clear anything up overnight. But it is a good tactic to implement to combat your hormonal or cystic acne over time.

#10: Clean Up Your Makeup

Have you read my post about how to switch over to a clean beauty routine? You might want to go read it now if you haven’t! The FDA doesn’t have nearly as stringent requirements on what chemicals can be included in makeup as it should. Other countries are way more intense! The ingredients used in drugstore or big name makeup brands can have extremely negative effects on not only your skin but, more importantly, your whole body! Okay, off my soapbox, back to hormonal acne. As I mentioned before, hormonal acne and cysts pop up from a reaction to bacteria. By slowly changing your beauty products over to clean alternatives, you can start using things that are healthier for your skin and won’t clog your pores and create a breeding ground for more pimples.

A great place to start on this journey would be at Credo. It’s a 100% clean beauty retailer. Every product they offer has undergone rigorous scrutiny to be sold on their shelves. You can buy with confidence from them! They can help you switch over your products by finding clean beauty equivalents to what you’re currently using. And they’ll reward you for bringing in your empty containers of “dirty” or clean beauty products!

#11: Stress Management

Last but certainly not least, manage that stress, girl. SO much easier said than done. When we get stressed our bodies produce cortisol which then produces, you guessed it, pimples! There are so many ways to manage your stress, so find one that works best for you. Start by thinking about what situations get you the most stressed. Is it work-related? Could it be solved with time management? Ask yourself these questions, and I hope you’ll find a way to better manage your stress. I am so far from being an expert in this realm. *Please leave recommendations* But I do know that having a day planner, making a daily to-do list, and a task-management program (Trello) for work helps reduce my stress immensely. But exercise, going for walks, and reading are also other ways I combat getting over-stressed!

That’s all I have on how to treat hormonal acne…for now. I will continue to update this post on how to treat hormonal acne with any new findings or insights! You can always find my skincare and beauty products linked here.

If any of you struggle with hormonal acne, what are some of the techniques you’ve used to treat it? Let me know via DM on Insta or email me. I’d love to hear what you’ve tried and learned!

The Ultimate Starter Pack for Clean Beauty Products

The Ultimate Starter Pack for Clean Beauty Products 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

This post on clean beauty products and where to start when making the switch has been much requested by many of you on Insta and my closest gal pals! When I decided to only use cruelty-free makeup, I started discovering more about all of the harsh, toxic chemicals that go into our everyday beauty products. That’s why I’m writing today’s post to share 10 products to include in your clean beauty “starter pack” so to say 🙂

10 CLEAN BEAUTY PRODUCTS TO GET STARTED:

clean beauty products, clean beauty makeup, clean beauty products skin care, clean beauty tips | Clean beauty products starter pack featured by top Dallas beauty blog, Never Without Lipstick

  1. Native Deodorant: This may be one of the hardest clean beauty products to start using. Trust. Me. I had to try three different brands before I found THE one. I even went back to normal deodorant for a bit and it didn’t work, ha. Standard deodorants contain aluminum (a carcinogen), so you should really try to make the switch to clean beauty starting here. I LOVE Native Deodorant because it actually works. It’s the only one that actually, truly blocks the stink. You can even get it at Target now!
  2. Acure Shampoo and Conditioner: I’d always known that typical drugstore shampoos/conditioners weren’t good for me or my hair. Now that I’ve made the switch to Acure products, I’ve been pleasantly surprised! My hair feels softer and so much healthier now that I’m using these. This is another one you can get at Target 🙂
  3. Tom’s Toothpaste: Isn’t it shocking that toothpaste can have toxic ingredients and that it gets tested on animals?! This really blew my mind. This is a great replacement option!
  4. 100% Hyaluronic Acid Serum
  5. Vitamin C Plus E Ferulic Acid Serum
  6. Glycolic & Salicylic Acid Face Wash: This is an amazing everyday face wash for morning or night!
  7. BHA Toner: I use this every morning to keep my skin cells turning over regularly to brighten my skin and lift any acne staining!
  8. Bite Beauty Lipstick: Bite Beauty products are paraben, phthalate, and sulfate free. I made a custom lipstick at the Bite Beauty Lab in San Francisco and I love the amuse bouche formula. This line has so many different colors and tons of different formulas to choose from!
  9. Indie Lee Brightening Makeup Remover Cleansing Wash: As sad as it is to hear, makeup wipes can be very toxic and are, not to mention, bad for the environment. That’s why I love this face wash! It lathers really well and actually takes off every lick of your makeup. I usually do this and then wash with a BHA face wash afterward to double cleanse.
  10. Ellis Brooklyn Perfume: Fragrance is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to high toxicity and negative side effects like infertility. Fragrance can be synthetic and present in different products in varying amounts since it’s not regulated. So you don’t really know how many toxins you’re being exposed to! It’s oftentimes used to mask the smells of the other toxic chemicals in products – yikes. So this means that so many of our perfumes are loaded with toxins – ah! That’s why I love this line of perfumes! Once I’ve run out of my other perfume, I’m going to get this in the Fawn scent.

Resources to Get Informed About Clean Beauty Products:

I know all of this info can be a lot, but don’t let it overwhelm you! One of the best pieces of advice I can give is to start just by getting informed.

  • Think Dirty: One of my close friends told me about this phone app and I’m AMAZED. You can type in literally any product and it’ll score its “dirtiness” on a scale of 1-10 based on its ingredients. This can make shopping and scanning your current products much easier
  • Fashion Veggie: Molly is a Dallas-based vegan lifestyle and fashion blogger. I decided to go completely cruelty-free after watching her stories when Nars decided to start selling their products in mainland China. Side note: If a brand or line sells their products in mainland China (& other parts of Asia), then that brand is required by law to test on animals. Molly is just a great resource for vegan, cruelty-free, and clean beauty products and brands!
  • Clean Beauty Cheat Sheet: Biossance made an amazing cheat sheet that you can download or screenshot to have on your phone. It breaks down each of the toxic ingredients to look out for and what the side effects are of each one.

Next steps: Read some articles and start scanning the labels of the products you currently use. Wait until you’ve used up your shampoo or your toothpaste and then opt to replace it with clean beauty products next time!

Please feel free to DM me or email me with any questions at all about clean beauty products or cruelty-free beauty!

My 5 Favorite Cruelty Free Lipstick Brands

My 5 Favorite Cruelty Free Lipstick Brands 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

In July of last year, I finally made the decision to go completely cruelty free. This meant with my makeup, skincare, and even household products. I’ve learned so much over the past months about cruelty free brands I love as well as new ones to try. And bet your bottom dollar I’ve done my fair share of research on cruelty free lipstick brands. As a (self-proclaimed) lipstick connoisseur, I tested each of these cruelty free lipstick brands to make sure they met my standards. That meant each one has a formula I trust, applies easily, and has strong staying power!

Glo Skin Beauty:

Does anyone else’s mom fuel their lipstick obsession? My mom is always seeing and recommending new lip colors for me to try and I LOVE it. That’s exactly how I found out about Glo Skin Beauty. My mom found the perfect bright magenta lip crayon at this amazing beauty supply store in Austin. It was a fast fave first for the color and then for the formula! The crayon applies so precisely and the color is perfectly matte. The pigment lasts longer than most liquid lipsticks I’ve tried without drying your lips! I’ve since added many more colors to my collection. Glo is one of the cruelty free lipstick brands that really delivers on quality while being extremely affordable at the same time.

Favorite shades:

Charlotte Tilbury:

Maybe it’s the rose gold packaging or Charlotte’s love for the luxe life, but I am obsessed either way. Her products deliver on all fronts: pigment, quality, effectiveness. Her lipsticks are no exception. I have found that the pigments are rich and very unique. They apply creamy, so they keep your lips feeling moisturized. The color does last for about 2-3 hours before I need to reapply!

Favorite shades:

Stila: The brand itself is cruelty free but their parent company is not.

Initially liquid lipsticks can be intimidating, but they’re actually great to add to your makeup bag. It’s nice to not have to think about reapplying your lip color! Getting the formula right for a liquid lipstick isn’t easy, but Stila has done a great job with theirs. The applicator allows you to apply the color precisely and my lips don’t get dry and creased as the day goes on. Try the two shades I mention below; you can’t go wrong with either!

Favorite Shades:

  • Beso (coral take on traditional red)
  • Baci (matte nude pink)

Urban Decay: The brand itself is cruelty free but their parent company is not.

There’s just something magical about an amazing lipstick formula for under $20 ($17 to be exact). This collection of lipsticks can be overwhelming because I think there are over 100 color options. I recommend watching YouTubers swatch their favorite shades or googling the swatches to see color info. I got the shade ‘Naked’ from a beauty blogger’s rec and have loved it. This color is one of the creamier formulas. I prefer matte formulas for longer lasting color and creamy formulas when my lips feel dry. This creamy formula delivers strong pigment without it feeling or looking too sheer or too mushy on your lips.

Favorite Shade:

Axiology Lipstick:

This is one of my new favorite cruelty free lipstick brands! Their lipsticks are 100% vegan and natural meaning no unhealthy or toxic ingredients. I love that this is one of the cruelty-free lipstick brands that I can wear with confidence knowing that it’s 100% safe. The pigment on the lipsticks I received is creamy and more on the sheer side. This is a good way for me to break up my use of super matte lipsticks! The formula is very moisturizing, and I just love that it’s healthy on my lips.

Favorite Shade:

  • I received Bliss, Vibration, and Noble courtesy of Axiology. They are perfect peachy/coral hues for the spring season and I can’t wait to wear them nonstop!

Style blogger Ashley of Never Without Lipstick recommends products for a matte skincare and makeup routine | matte skin, matte skincare, matte skin how to get, matte makeup, matte makeup for oily skin, matte makeup tutorial, matte foundation, easy makeup routine, skincare routine, beginner skincare routine

Last week on my Insta Stories, I shared a few products that I’ve been using to keep my skin and makeup matte and oil-free. I wanted to put together a more detailed post about my matte skincare and makeup routine so that it had a place to live on the blog in case some might want to reference it in the future! My skin has been so oily lately and by the end of the day, my makeup looks like it has almost melted off my face. It’s such a frustrating experience, but I’ve read as many articles as I can for tips and tricks and tried out quite a few new products that have started to make a difference. That’s why I wanted to share my current matte skincare and makeup routine for those of you who might be struggling with this same thing!

MATTE SKINCARE:

  1. Wash with cleansing oil: This may seem counter-intuitive but cleansing oil clings to fat (aka excess oil) on your face, pulls it off your skin, and washes it away. I use this instead of a regular facial cleanser most of the time.
  2. AHA/BHA toner or Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel: For those of you with oily skin, don’t tone everyday; do it every other day. Toners can be drying on the skin which leads to more oil production, especially with toners that have alcohol in them. The AHA/BHA toner helps to soak up oil and can penetrate beyond just the surface level of your skin.
  3. Apply serum with (optional) powder booster: I like to change up which serum I’m using based on what I’m trying to treat that day with my skin. (I wrote about 3 serums that I love here in case you missed it.) After reading this article, I decided to give this True Botanicals antioxidant booster a try. The powder texture of the booster is oil absorbent and the antioxidants repair my skin – just add two shakes to your favorite serum, blend, and apply!
  4. Moisturizer and eye cream: Something I used to misunderstand about my oily skin was that I didn’t need moisturizer because my skin was producing so much oil. Wrong. This only dehydrated my skin and caused MORE oil – great. I always make sure to include moisturization in my matte skincare routine morning and night to lock in my skin’s moisture and prevent it from overproducing. My undereye concealer seems to go on better when I’ve applied eye cream!
  5. Sunscreen: Sunscreen contains zinc and titanium which are great oil-absorbing ingredients to keep your skin matte.

Now onto the second part of my matte skincare and makeup routine…

MATTE MAKEUP:

  1. Primer on your T-zone: Sometimes I feel like primers clog up my skin, so I don’t like to apply it all over. Apply it in the most oily parts of your face – mine is my t-zone! I haven’t quite found a primer that I love and trust – but I will keep you updated or please send suggestions!
  2. Apply foundation: Liquid foundation just wasn’t doing the trick for me and always felt too greasy no matter what formula I used. Things have really changed for the better with this stick foundation (I wear the shade ‘vanilla’, and I have fair skin with olive undertones!).
  3. Apply concealer
  4. Apply loose mineral powder
  5. Apply contour
  6. Set t-zone with white setting powder: This is my modified version of ‘baking’! I put quite a bit of setting powder and cake it onto my skin, undereyes, around my nose, and my forehead. I apply it with a damp beauty blender and let it sit for about 5-8 minutes. This works to really set my makeup in place and give me that matte makeup finish.
  7. Brush off excess setting powder and apply blush
  8. Apply highlight (optional): This step is totally up to you! Some of you may be averse to adding more shine to oil-prone skin or some of you may want to add in some dewy/glowy touches. I love this highlighter because I just dab it along my cheekbone for a slight glow!
  9. Set with sunscreen setting powder on chin, under nose, and between brows: I know this may seem intense. But I’m not kidding when I say that I’ll notice that all-too-familiar sheen of oil around my nose and on my chin within a few hours of applying my makeup if I don’t go through the right process. This final setting powder is another way to get oil-absorbing ingredients on my face.

So there you have it: my current matte skincare and makeup routine. I will continue to test products and new methods and share them with you if I find any new discoveries. Do you struggle with oily skin as well? If there are products you’ve tried that have really helped you, please let me know via Insta DM or comment below!

3 Serums for Acne-Prone Skin

3 Serums for Acne-Prone Skin 800 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

First things first, I am not a skincare expert. Everyday I’m scouring through articles on Into the Gloss hoping that something will sink in (I am learning so much though!). What I do know is that I struggle with oily, acne-prone skin (particularly cystic acne), and I have been on and off antibiotics for my skin since middle school – I’m sure I’m not the only one. In an effort to avoid taking antibiotics and using potentially harmful chemicals on my skin, I’ve started to embrace 3 different serums for acne-prone skin that I’ve seen positive results from using.

These three serums for acne-prone skin are also on the affordable end of the spectrum because I want to test products that I know I can afford again if they work for my skin. And each brand I’m talking about is a cruelty-free beauty brand, so rest assured no animals were tested to create these products and that the ingredients are safe for your skin.

  • Glycolic Acid Serum: You’ve probably heard or read about acids like salicylic acid (beta hydroxy acid) and glycolic acid (alpha hydroxy acid) before. These acids should be staples in your skincare routine because they cause your skin to repair itself on the surface without causing extreme peeling or dryness. I’ve loved this serum because I noticed an immediate improvement in my skin’s texture and redness. A lot of my pimples had gone down and flattened out after I had used this for a couple of days. Glycolic is great for evening your skin tone because it boosts collagen production which plumps up your skin. I’d recommend using this 3 times a week to start out (but never every day) because as it builds up it could cause a bit of dryness which may lead to more oily skin for a few days.
  • Vitamin C Serum: If you’re looking to brighten and heal your skin, look no further than this vitamin C serum from Glossier. I have lots of scarring on my skin from picking at it and my cysts, so I really love the brightening properties of this serum. Just make sure to use sunscreen after applying it because it can make your skin a little bit more sensitive to sunlight right after using it. I like to use it right after I run toner over my face in the mornings and before my moisturizer. It livens and brightens my skin for the day!
  • Hyaluronic Acid Serum: One thing that really blew my mind about oily skin was the difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin. Dry skin is lacking oil and therefore needs more of it. But dehydrated skin needs water; adding more oil to dehydrated skin just clogs pores and leads to more breakouts. Hyaluronic acid has SO many benefits, especially anti-aging ones because it keeps things moisturized and plump. It’s an acid that is present in the body’s connective tissue that keeps your joints lubricated for their best functionality! I started using this serum because I wanted to start moisturizing my skin with a water-based serum to hydrate it so that it would stop producing excess oil. Hyaluronic acid also creates a barrier on your skin to keep moisture in instead of letting it out with oil!

Do any of you have similar skin issues as mine? I’d LOVE to know your journey and what products have helped you out. It’s seriously such a huge learning curve, so I’m taking everything in and want to get experimenting!

If you’re worried you might forget the names of these serums or want to come back to this post later, pin this lil guy below so you’ll know exactly where to go!

Lifestyle blogger Ashley Deatherage of Never Without Lipstick shares the trending fall lipstick colors

Fall Lipstick Trends

Fall Lipstick Trends 838 1200 neverwithoutlipstick

The word ‘lipstick’ wouldn’t be part of my blog name if I weren’t truly a lover and hoarder of lipstick. When I was 10, my mom had to scold me for how many lipsticks I’d bring on vacation (plus or minus 8). If it isn’t obvious today, I haven’t changed my ways when it comes to lipstick – I still want all the colors. And right now, I particularly want ALL the fall lipstick colors (it’s my favorite season so naturally they’re my favorite lip hues to look out for).

Lifestyle blogger Ashley Deatherage of Never Without Lipstick shares the trending fall lipstick colors

You’re going to want to pucker up for these trendy updates for your pout:

  • Grape/Berry Purples: With these hues, imagine you’ve just bitten into a handful of juicy blueberries or a ripe plum (you know, as one does). Go for true grape hues or deep purple shades; think of very vampy purples. These colors have been all over the runways, and I love how this dark plum looks on Lucy Hale here. I picked up a shade (in Temptress) similar to hers and made sure to grab a lighter gloss (in Berry Strudel) to lessen the intensity of the color so that I can wear it during the day. Definitely get a liner with this shade to really define your lip shape. I also LOVE to mix a vampy purple and a deep burgundy (in She Devil) to get a reddish plum hue – it’s a killer shade for the fall!
  • Glossy: Goodbye to the days of matte lips – it’s time for high gloss, baby. Remember the days when you couldn’t wait to graduate from Lipsmackers clear gloss to the big girl Dr.Pepper red? Funny how fashion works because it’s all about that lacquer this season. Layer on clear gloss on top of any of your go-to shades or over a cherry red for some high shine lips!
  • Red: On the topic of red…it’s not only trending for your wardrobe but also your lips. Of course burgundy and bordeaux reds are still hot topics, but this season it’s about cherry and candy apple reds. I recently got this Hourglass lipstick in ‘Secretly’ and I’m obsessed. It’s the perfect cruelty-free replacement for my former go-to Chanel liquid lip! I’m convinced that a red lip can seriously dress up any outfit and make you feel like a bombshell all day long.
  • Soft and shimmery: Pale, shimmery pinks are giving me slight Britney Spears vibes, but it has looked so subtle and chic on the NYFW models. Give your go-to neutral a baby pink update with a shade like this one in ‘Creator’ – maybe even add a shimmer gloss over it?
