I’m going to come right out and say it. I am OVER Texas weather. In the mornings, I’m freezing and by the afternoons I’m ready to throw on a pair of shorts and a tank top! Getting dressed in this kind of weather is confusing and…requires layering. Lots of people have requested a style hack on what to wear when the weather is so back and forth. And the only way to do that is by layering. Since the temps seem to rise as the day goes on, I’m specifically featuring this look because it captures how I do lightweight layering to prep for the warmth at the end of the day.
First off I try to stay on season (seeing as it is technically still winter) with my color palette. The rust tones of my booties, the dark crop flare jeans (nice and breezy) keep the look winter appropriate.
But to really be smart about lightweight layering, I think it’s essential to wear longsleeves and something sleeveless for added warmth. I decided to go with a neutral knit sweater tank over a white button down because it was incredibly lightweight, warm enough in the brisk mornings, and the sweater without totally throwing off the look! Think about wearing a puffer vest over a long sleeve tee with leggings or a tennis skirt (if it’s set to be 80 degrees by noon!) and tennis shoes for an athleisure kind of day. Or a furry faux fur vest over a longsleeve silk blouse? The options are endless!
Just remember to have a longsleeve base and something sleeveless for warmth. Add in a typical winter base of jeans and booties or slides with the look and it keeps you on season even if the weather isn’t quite on the same page!
What are ways that you like to layer when the temps are like a yo-yo?! I’d love to know in the comments! (And if your eyes have been feasting on Spring 17 wear (or if you’re not quite there yet), then head here to see the picks that’ll be must-have this spring season!
